People keep mentioning Javelin, but I don’t recall SD ever stating he was a merc that was actually being developed. I think he is just this character some people want to exist but may never actually appear.

Sure there are always updates with Free to Play games to keep them relevant, but I’d rather be aware that the game is unfinished and be aware that some features which are lacking, or not working correctly are still on the table to be improved.
Many games in Beta status do well, extremely well even. Just look at PlayUnknown’s Battle Ground. It is in Beta, and really shows it. The game is a lot of fun, but given that it is labeled Beta I can expect that the broken aspects of the game will be fixed or improved as the game continues to be developed.
Keeping a game in Beta just tells people to expect more, that shouldn’t be a bad thing.
Thing is once the game is public, you can buy stuff, and it basically has all the features that matter. You can’t really call it a beta, I mean what are we even testing anymore?

How would development continue if they had no way to make money off of it? Just because you can buy something doesn’t mean it should be in a “released” state.
Also, while it seems like we aren’t testing much, it was mostly due to the slower development speed which is hopefully a thing of the past. We recently received new maps and a new merc, and with those comes a large possibly of breaking the game in unforeseen ways. Things need to be tested and tweaked accordingly. While we might not be the first wave of testers, we do still test the game to the extend that we are able to find and report bugs.
While an “official release” could potentially have a bunch of new players flock to the game since its finally out of Beta, these players could then be disappointed due to amount of bugs, or lack of content within the officially released product. This could cause them to stop playing the game flat out. With a Beta, people should be aware that more content and bug fixes are coming, and may stick it out, or check back with the game at a later date.
People bring up Warframe a lot in these types of Beta vs Release conversations, and I agree that its a very valid title to argue this point as well.
The first time I played Warframe, I loved it, and played it for probably 300+ hours, it then started to feel stale, as I was basically at end game with nothing much to work towards. I took a break from the game for about a year and it felt totally different. It was also available on steam at this point which was a plus. I sunk about another 300 hours into the game on that same account. I’ve since stopped playing the game again, but there are many new updates and features coming out that make me want to play it again.
The game also has plenty of items you can only buy using Platinum, which is a premium currency. While you can actually sell items to other players for Platinum now, this was not always the case which left a lot of items unattainable for true free to play players (cosmetic anyway). That doesn’t stop it from being a game in Beta though.

Javelin is a female character, there is closed beta concept art along with a ‘working’ prototype of a rocket launcher already in the game. Just because they haven’t said anything about her, doesn’t make it a fallacy. Javelin is the only remaining unreleased merc that we know anything about it. Whether or not she makes it into the game is another point completely.

remember past months SD said Turtle was never being on worked stage and was only designed as a concept

Turtle was always confirmed to be coming out though, whether he was currently being worked on or not. Not so sure about Javelin, though since people want the merc it would make sense for them to develop them. Personally I’m not looking forward to a rocket launcher though… would have to have one hell of a cool down.

neither Javelin nor Turtle were available during Alpha, although we saw a Turtle concept in a vid, any other information if available would be under strict NDA
