minor advice.

Your moderators should stay out of conversations. They should not interefre with what people are discussing and make decisions about what people post in the forums depending on their own personal opinions. By this I mean that they should not erase posts or ban accounts just because they personally don’t like that post or person. The moderators in this forum are pretty good about staying out of it and just letting people do and say what they want, but I’ve been in other forums where the moderators behave like regular posters but since they have a little more power they can erase everything they don’t like. It makes things really annoying and ultimately hurts the forum. I tell you if I kicked everyone that I didn’t like in this forum there would be almost no one left.

So tell your moderators to keep a low profile and never answer topics unless they are directed to them. Tell them not to behave like assholes, and never erase anything or ban annyone unless their behavior breaks TOS or is otherwise very inapprioriate. If they want to chat like regular people then they should create a different account.

Thanks for the advice m42k.

I have participated in a number of forums, and have been a moderator for some of those as well. I have learned first hand what is the best way to do things and I completely agree with your suggestions.

The mods for the new forums will be chosen with much care. I dont plan I picking up any bloc who just stumbles along.

Thx.

Good luck man. Lemme know when its up and running, ill be sure to check it out.

Maybe you could also have a news section for LE news… that informs people of things like new/updated mapping tools, new/updated tutorials, map releases, game releases, current beta tests etc - maybe even LE related articles and commentary from well-known mappers. Also, maybe do a level of the week type thing, where someone reviews a custom level from one of the many games you wish to support.

I actually have a bunch of ideas, if your interested in hearing them, lemme know, ill write em up for you.

Gl dude.

@ Stormshadow:

Yea, actually I am planning on having all those things you mentioned. It will just be a matter of time before they are implemented into the site. News (in), articles and interviews from the mapping world (in)…

About the level of the week… I am thinking about doing something similar to this, but instead of one selected individual reviewing a map, I want to turn it over to the whole community. I am planning on creating a seperate forum just for this. You will see what I mean once I get the forums up.

Thx.

I hope you manage to incorporate all these things and still keep a design that is not too cluttered. Many sites that have a lot of content can be impossible to navigate. I hope you have some good web design skills.

The site will be as clean and streamlined as possible… Providing the most content and effect possible with the littlest amount of flair.

That is my goal.

Alrighty, moving along.

I got the forums up @ www.levelsource.com .

Please drop by and say hello!

a couple notes:

  • As so elequently pointed out by SCDS, I need the help of the existing community to help create this new community at levelsource. Will you help us create a great community?

  • The site is obviously not completed. There will be many updates and site additions. I will also be applying a unique design theme to the forums (for effect).

  • I talked a little bit about levelsource and what it means to the community in a sticky on the “open discussion” forums. If you could, check that out.

  • I am currently looking for moderators and community helpers. Let me know if interested.

Thats about it. Come post and tell your friends! Thank you.
