Yeah. And when you sign in from a different device it likes to reset it to the original - sometimes.

Wat.

There are some serious WTFs in the design and/or implementation of this forum software.

This is all an educated guess with what’s going on so grain of salt.

You change your name with your current browser session. The name is updated in the database but there isn’t a request to have all other sessions connect and immediately invalidate all cached data/cookies/etc. So when you connect with another device that also has a valid auth session with the forum the forum doesn’t know what to do…so it updates your name to what your previous name was on that authenticated session since there appears to be nothing stopping the write to the DB. So it changes your name back to what it was with that authenticated session. This is an intermittent issue and could potentially be browser/platform specific.

This forum was fitted with an Nexon’s external auth system and I’d wager they need to make a change to immediately invalidate all other sessions so that cache/cookies are flushed/updated after something like a name is updated.

Yeah, that’s what I had in mind. The difference between an acceptable but not dangerous issue caused by integration with Nexon authentication system and a full blown WTF is whether the name reverts permanently. I assumed it does but I reread the thread and there is nothing confirming that.
