That’s no good, wonder why they would do that.
Though I did post earlier in the week asking if this would happen, guess I called it.

I’m really sad about this. WTF… the ETQW drone was my favorite, you guys had that. I had high hopes that this would be a return to that awesomeness. If it’s going to be this janky to maneuver at least make it instakill in a small radius.
Plus, you have to deploy it on the already unintuitive ‘turret/mine friendly’ zones, THEN ‘f’ activate it? Also, why the hell not bind the detonate to mouse1 instead of g? G makes no sense for the pc- why should I pull my fingers away from wasd when i’m stalking someone when i’ve got 3 buttons sitting idly on my other hand?

You have a couple valid points here, but the pre-set key layout isn’t one of it since you can bind them in any way you want under options-controls-weapon setup. I have grenade throw bind on my middle mouse button, so detonating the UAV is also there. And so you can still use WASD.
You know most of the locations can be reached by walking. You may have to take a route around but 95% of the locations in Brink are acessible by the UAV.
Besides, the remote control ability is only a secondary function. The UAV’s primary use is for area reconnaissance.

Right, but I like the default g for grenade. Is there a console bind way to do that, or are they coupled to the same event like buff/interact?

Why make it an aerial drone at all then? If it’s tied to the ground why have it hover? (I do know, but that’s not OK)
You really can’t apologize for the drone- it was a cheap implementation. Better than nothing, and people may find some cool uses for it, but ETQW players know what the drone should be, and so does SD.
well i love my uav but they do have drawbacks…if you damage someone with it u dont get points you have to kill…ok the primary ability doesent seem to work…when looking threw my uav view they dont turn red like when looking down my gun nor do i get the points…I play on ps3
Oh believe me, I know how flying drones work. They’re one of the most fun things to harass people with in games like Battlefield.
The point is, giving it full mobility is kind of a squandered effort considering how close-quarter oriented the maps are. May as well spend time making more content/updates than giving us a small mobility boost.
As for the whole “why is it tied to the ground” thing, at first I agreed with you and started brainstorming some kind of RC car that players could drive around. Then I realised that it couldn’t get up small steps the same way that the UAV can simply because it hovers. (Best example for this is the first Objective on Founders’ Tower; the UAV can climb up the side onto the balcony where as an RC car could not.)
The idea is that it passively marks them on your map when placed. Activating remote control flight is purely a fun little bonus to blow people up with.

I didnt notice them on the radar when i just placed it on CC as security…I need to look into this. Thanks Nexo
After having spent a fair amount of time using the UAV, I see no reason to not have the jump button temporarily increase the height of the UAV’s flight. Even a small boost would go a long way to allow the UAV to be much more effective overall.
False. When play-testing with the UAV, I had to redeploy it many times in one life due to it being shot down.

This
I can verify that i dont die when its shot down i just redeploy and get back in there :stroggbanana:
Why would you die, I mean you are dozents, if not hundreds of meters away from the drone. You are completely independent from another. You die, drone stays intact and you can use it after respawn again, without the need to redeploy a new one. Drone gets killed, you stay alive. You see through a camera on the drone whats going on. Theres no mind-machine connection like in Avatar, wich under bad circumstances, can damage your mind or even kill you, if suddenly interrupted.
I’ve played with the uav a little more, and it does get easier to control with practice. Still don’t get why it can’t ascend. Doesn’t the game already have invisible ceilings? At least it should be able to climb in all the places a player can climb.
Given the way the uav functions, I think I would have preferred it as a ground vehicle, or a low to the ground hovercraft (ugv? utv?). That might make it harder for players to see it coming.
Did anyone say UAV? Well here are some of my RL “UAVs”. The bigger one had an actual turbine, but it never flew(at least not for me). Due to financial problems I finally had to sell it.:(:(:(:(:(:(:(
The smaller one is a “T-Rex 450SE V2” wich I still fly. Look at You-Tube vids for RL-action of the T-Rex. Love that little rascal due to his great flying- characteristics.
