Yes you lose 6 DPS for better spread (recoil doesn’t matter), but that reduction to spread is not that substantial between the two guns - it’s nowhere near as drastic as the spread difference between the Timik and the M4. The SMG-9 is NOT a very accurate gun, and the main reason it has slightly better accuracy than the Crotzni is because the Crotzni straight up fires faster - which is something that the player can address by bursting anyway. Every pro player in tournaments who uses Sawbonez or Nader will ALWAYS pick the Crotzni over the SMG-9. It IS the better gun (especially when Nader’s Quick Eye augment on her best loadout allows it to keep high accuracy over distance while still strafing fast).

Quick Eye is GREATLY useful for being able to strafe faster while being hyper accurate at medium range. The SMG-9 and Crotzni aren’t very accurate guns in medium-long range, so using ADS allows you to be MUCH more accurate at the cost of making yourself and easier target - but this downside of making yourself an easier target is greatly reduced by having Quick Eye. That’s why it’s a useful augment.

And, as I said, I don’t hate the SMG-9. I just think it’s an underused gun, just like the LMGs. Read my last comment as to why I want the SMG-9 to see more use:

“Second, I’m not saying I “love” the SMG-9 - the Crotzni IS better. I’m just saying that it’d be nice for the SMG-9 to see some action, since it’s a gun that never gets picked in competitive matches (and for the most part doesn’t get picked in pubs either). For the same kinds of reasons, I’d like to see buffs to the LMGs because they never get picked (Fragger’s take the M4 or BR-16, and Thunder takes the Stark) and it’d just be more interesting to see more weapon variety in competitive play.”

[spoiler]I would like to see more weapon diversity among the merc supertypes. Ergo, I would highly disapprove of Turtle getting an SMG. I would like to see Turtle be able to use assault rifles, such as the Dreiss, the Stark, and something else. Heck, even an LMG.

Just anything but another SMG/Shotgun character.[/spoiler]

[spoiler]The main problem is that the SMGs don’t have the greatest variety between each other. We have a strong automatic, a high-DPS automatic, a long ranged SMG, and then…

Bad (SMG-9) and worse. (Hochfir)

There’s not many conceivable ways for the SMG-9 to be buffed aside from having better augments, like the Blishlock and the Hochfir.

Or, every other weapon could be nerfed to the point where assault rifles have 50% mobility on average, good SMGs have 60%, normal SMGs have 80%, and the Hochfir has 90% mobility. cough BAD IDEA cough

Compared to assault rifles, at least we have two very different burstfire weapons, a semi-auto, a predictable spread weapon and an AK. The problem is, burstfire weapons are overpowered, the AK is useless, and some assault rifles make LMGs redundant. That’s all conceivably easier to fix compared to the level of weakness that is the SMG-9.

Heck, I think that we should have had a burstfire SMG. With DPS equivalent to the SMG-9.[/spoiler]

smg 9 is my favourite gun.
its literally mini machinegun with mag capacity of 40
and you can practically dink dink dink dink with that gun

Hochfir also isn’t bad, it has the role of being a lazer. The problem with the SMG-9 is that it doesn’t do enough to differentiate itself from the Crotzni, there’s more of a difference between the Timik and M4 I think than these two. Maybe 5 extra bullets might help.
