Certainly they won’t release source. Anyway you have to have client & server side to fully working, but in the future et:leg will have something better I think so : )
Trying to compile ETeng 0.3
Impossible because of license issues. Closed software can’t be linked with GPLv3. And also, they can’t release just binary. They have to release source code too if it’s under GPLv3.
right, but whats to stop somebody from branching their own closed project? As far as I know, all that means is they are no longer covered by GPLv3 license.
…and I never suggested punkbuster release their source code.
If you fork ET source code, it must have GPLv3 license. And you can’t change it license. If you need another license to use closed libs, you must write whole client and server from scratch.
I concur. That being said, all changes are committed to the original source, and GPL. So I wonder how many versions of ET:L there will eventually be…o.0
Hehe, you think I was kidding when I said there will be an infinite number of versions. Well, maybe not infinite but I hope many more than 10. As long as the ET:L project will be maintained, we will publish new versions… They will all be compatible with ET 2.60b and there will be autoupdater from the beginning, so there won’t be another ET version schism if that is what you’re worried about.
