thoughts on hacking

(Apples) #41

Yeah, thats why I said why would I bother to wait to unlock all perks if I can get them offline in one week? It wont make me instaleet OFC but who care as i’m already supraleet

BTW I would also like to ad that playing offline to unlock faster are in no way a “hack”, if this basic flaw is on the game then everyone should use it, the balance will be elsewhere.

Peace

In ETQW it was encouraged to play all the maps offline first as well, so maybe that isn’t such a bad idea.
I just read the majority of this Q&A. Toward the bottom he explains that you can buy ( and sell back ) abilities in between matches.

He does explain that the majority of customization will be aesthetic, but there apparently is an option to customer your weapons as well. I have yet to find anything specific so it is hard to say now. Thought it might help.
Thanks for the link, didn’t fully explain it but I learned a lot of other stuff. But I didn’t really like some of the questions. Seems like it wasn’t just one person asking all the questions but most of it was whine about iron sights.

We’re talking about people unlocking them without actually playing. They just find a way to make the game believe they have done it and therefor are awarded with the unlocks in a minute. But I guess it won’t affect online gameplay atleast not for long.

(tokamak) #45

It would cheapen the prestige of progressing a character, also for the people who don’t do it. It just inflates the whole thing. But yeah, not real gameplay consequences.

Maybe you should bother because it’s meant to be played the right way and it may be the best experience?

Meh that’s just what gaming has come to. Miss the times when people played a game because they actually liked to play it and not for some arbitrary gamerscore or whatever (not necessarily directed at Apples).

(Apples) #47

The point is that I’ll still have mucho fun (if the game isnt a slomo turtle…but thats another thread) even once I unlocked everything, the fun I have in fps isnt at all coming from XP or rank or whatever bonus I may have, hell I played sof2 for like 5 years on the same map 10H/day, and almost the same for q3, even played like 3 years offline because I hadnt the net back then…

I find my fun in the people I play with, and in the frag I make or someone makes to me, so yeah, I wont bother bout perks and stuff as it wont ruin the fun for me to have them all, it’ll be funny for like 3 hours to customize your guy and then… welcome back to the shooting part of the game. Once again i guess you misinterpretted my thoughts here, I dont want to unlock all just to farm, but to get rid of this part which isnt that much appealing to me, choose a “ok” combo and then focus on what I like, i.e. the shooting part.

I know it can sounds a bit crazy but yup, if I need some time to unlock as much stuff as I can offline, then I wont need to bother about them during the MP part (which is where I find the fun) and will actually focus on gettin better at what I like, not running after a freaking plant just to unlock that bigger magazine.

Peace

He’s typically drunktard but he makes sense here, +1 Apples.

(tokamak) #49

Well at least you two are consistent, ETpro raped the whole thing as well.

We are all missing the times when people played for the game and not XP/rewards/stats, unlocking all stuffs quickly is the first step to go back to that time imo.

(shirosae) #51

+1 to this, and to Apples.

Ironically, the first request for a Brink mod is going to be a no-xp-save one.

(tokamak) #52

Yes, we know it already, you’re all fans of that ETpro travesty.

(Apples) #53

Its not cuz I like the shooting part of a FPS that I dislike any team oriented stuff… They arent antonyms IMO

(shirosae) #54

Also, I don’t really understand how grinding the same action 4765465 times for a new shotgun qualifies as ‘team orientated stuff’.

Some of us just don’t need to be conned with cheap grindy gimmicks to play SD’s games.

If anything, the ranked-only people should look on us as a blessing; we’re going to put effort into creating a version of the game without all their XP grindage stuff, so all the people who want to ‘cheat’ the unlocks will most likely come play with us instead of clogging up the general pub games (unless they’re also huge scrubs who get their face blown off repeatedly and run back to the ranked servers).

(tokamak) #55

Indeed! In the same way the mod community is a blessing for the ranked pubbers. If you guys managed to make a mod that disables that part of the game then that will keep all the ‘con-players’ away from the pure games.

It’s a win/win.

(darthmob) #56

I guess it depends a lot on how the unlocks will work. If it’s like CoD or Battlefield I can see your reasoning because in the games I played it was rubbish. You were always at a disadvantage because of weaker weapons.

If Brink works the way it is supposed to work and unlocks offer a greater diversity in gameplay instead of just making someone more powerful then I see no problem with it. All the classes have the basic abilities from the beginning. I have had countless hours of fun with those in ET and ETQW. If I can play the game without feeling forced to grind and unlock new gameplay possibilities or customization options along the way that’s totally fine by me!

(tokamak) #57

I still find the path-dependancy interesting in a game. I understand that it doesn’t fit the comp-scene, and eventually it’s not going to matter one bit in the long run of the public, but at least let people have their fun in the first few months or so.

I’d rather see a mod giving an enormous amount of XP to buy everything, because IMO the XP will be money that you can use to buy clothes or perks, and there won’t be money for clothes & money for perks, it’s the same thing, so blocking all upgrades will also removing character customization and maybe other stuff who are going to make the mod as active as etqwpro :frowning: And I’m quite sure that you’ll gain lots of rank by creating a mod giving you lots of XP, so it shouldn’t unbalance the (already known as ‘broken’) matchmaking.

Please keep this thread on topic. Discussion of ETPro should take place in its own thread.

(tokamak) #60

We’re talking about the community here, maybe not entirely civil but I can’t agree that this is off-topic.
