The men seem older, and the women seem younger. How about cool young guy and tough older lady mercs?

@prankishVictory I have the feeling you use Tumblr a lot… Also if you live in Louisiana/Mississippi/Alabama… it’s not a stereotype for African-American women to sound like that down here.

(RadicalMac) #22

@prankishVictory “Women mature faster than men according to what?” I don’t know. Biology/Human Anatomy/Phsycology/etc. Women mature earlier physically and mentally. If you thought otherwise you definitely use Tumblr alot.

My family is from the south, but we now live up north. And I can tell you not all black women sound like Proxy down south or up north. Many many do not. Pardon me from saying its lazy for yet another company involved in a form of media to use the tired old sassy black woman stereotype.

(KayDubz) #24

Yes its scientific fact that women mature faster physically by maybe just a few years. Mental maturity is very much debatable and is a common trope thrown about.

And that doesnt explain the many years difference seen in the typical older male-younger female trope being discussed here. As a gamer, you should know this topic is pretty much well known in the community and media at large.

Its no secret that developers and directors try to target straight males, and thus character then to be based on stereotypical young straight male desires

PS - I dont use Tumblr. The little jab is rather pathetic. Instead of using any sources to back your argument, you simply seek to insult someone to bolster your own. Dont be that troll.

@prankishVictory You state yourself, not “ALL” black women sound like (you said Proxy, but I’m going to assume you meant Aura.) down south or up north, but apparently it’s a god forsaken stereotype when they actually include one that sounds like that when there are in fact african-american women that sound like that, which you state yourself. And I wouldn’t classify her as a “tired old sassy” she just has a southern tone. #OhNo

Just bounce out of this thread if youre solely here to sit and say how great stereotypes are.

You know there are plenty of people within communities who are a little bored and tired of perpetuation of the same stereotypes of them.

Btw there’s a Steam thread where a player said this:

Aura sounds from Harlem, or some other place where the black people are more common (I won’t say “ghetto”. She has that sassy accent, don’t deny it).

http://steamcommunity.com/app/333930/discussions/0/530645446315220185/#c530645446316936084

So don’t tell me use of this voice on a black woman doesn’t perpetuate a “sassy” stereotype. Its pretty lazy when anyone creative wants to use a black female character, but goes the route of making her a sassy American women. Its just lazy and overdone. The same way the older male-younger female trope is overdone.

@prankishVictory Since when was I stating how great stereotypes are? I never said a word that they all speak like that, I was basing off of what you had stated and what I said before. Of course not all african-american women speak with a southern accent. I never said they did. -.- I’m complaining to you about how you sound when you complain about it being a “Stereotype” even though there ARE african-american women that have southern accents, but YOU KIND OF PEOPLE, lose their s h i t when someone actually does talk like this. Just because there IS a stereotype doesn’t mean they are USING a stereotype. Here’s an example, some white people wear polos, and let’s say there’s a stereotype going around that all white people wear polos, and then someone uses a white man in a polo in some work game/art/etc who cares, and then people complain about it being a stereotype that they were used at all. It makes no sense. Just because there is a stereotype doesn’t mean there aren’t actually any that FIT THE STEREOTYPE. You complain about it being a stereotyped character yet she very well could have had an English accent, but guess what? They wanted to make her character the way they wanted to, not by a stereotype -.-

Dude move the hell on, youre nothing but a contrarion and offer nothing to the thread. Notice how the thread was fine until you joined in with your dismissive attitude and insults.

Anyone else, feel free to the chime in. But dont address this guy and keep the argument going.

Only if we had an overweight lady who cannot stop eating in the middle of a battle… Health Cookies anyone?

(KayDubz) #30

lolol cheeky

Though if we ever go get a big or brutish female merc, she shouldnt be another medic. I say give her a similar personality to Skyhammer, but with a tinge of humor. A real arse kicking and witty English woman.
