Team Kill "ON" enabled by default

(Breo) #21

Matches

  • Friendly fire ON for all the weapons

Public

Friendly fire OFF

  • Primary/sidearms

Friendly fire ON

  • Explosive weapons like grenades, rocketlaunchers, mines, claymore, bomb, c4 etc.

Also decrease points (XP) for tk and autokick (no rejoin for amount of minutes) for too much teamkilling.

Mhm good point here. Haven’t thought about this yet. But I’m too lazy to discuss now, I let the new forum users do it

Punishing teamkills need to be handled appropriately, otherwise it’s just a nuisance. I’d say the majority of teamkills are accidental, with griefers and a-holes making up the smaller percentage. As such, punishing players for every teamkill, seems inappropriate. Perhaps after the 2nd or 3rd teamkill, then issue punishment. It’s kind of like DRM software and piracy - it hurt the paying customers more than ones they were trying to target.

As for FF on or off by default, just have it on for ranked matches and off for unranked/public matches - it’s not rocket science…

(dommafia) #24

I’m assuming we are talking about FF (friendly fire). I’ve been playing ET past weeks on a FF OFF server. To the point that I dont even remember what the default was on QW. Did the exclamation server have FFon or off? I think even if it’s FF OFF it should still make it so explosives ALWAYS do team damage. To avoid what acutepuppy is talking about.

(Scrupus) #25

Most ET and QW servers had FF ON I think, but don’t remember what was the default.

But I do remember very well when setting up my first ET server, it had FF OFF for the first 2 weeks. Then, I turned FF ON and kept it there - forever.

It was a bit hard to find FF servers in Brink, so I think the default was OFF there.

Depends a bit on how it’s implemented, but I would probably vote for FF ON as default for DB as well.

But without those huge xp penalties you got for explosives in Brink - those sucked and didn’t really help anything against team killers.

I’m not sure if I believe in xp penalty for team killing at all, as most of them are accidents and those who wanna ruin the game for others always find some way to do it anyway. I think I have my QW server running with no_complaint for explosive/vehicle/mines. As long as it is possible for admin to configure a bit it’s not such a big deal how the default is tho. Maybe even better if the default is FF OFF, so dedicated admins can more easily attract the FF players

(acutepuppy) #26

We had it on at all times.

FF should be ON, but not instant penalties. I.E. you can ruin other player’s game without killing him. I have seen players that just shoot you enough to leave you almost dead, but as they don’t kill you, you don’t get to file a complaint.

I think the best solution could be to allow certain amounts of damage before filing a complaint, but with a different cap for different types of weapons.

add the Damage Reflected, so also they will have low life or the Damage Reflected is more higher than the normal dmg done if you shot an enemy !

(BrightIs) #29

as it is to be a team game, by tking you are already damaging your chances of winning and being punished already, i see no reason to punish further. If its some idiot deliberately tking around then they should be kicked.

(Mustang) #30

Friendly fire should most definitely be enabled by default, but I hope that teamkilling is punished harshly, -20% max hp per tk might do the trick.

(Dysfunkshion) #31

Call in tactical airstrike, stupid teammates run in. Oh well, bye bye max HP.
The problem I have with TK penalties is griefing. I’d rather have reflect damage on bullets and something else for explosives like airstrikes. That way you still need to pick your shots and you can’t get griefed that muc.

(Chux) #32

I’d leave FF on, just makes sense (at least for me) to do so for a game like this

Yea that works too, anything that deters the griefers but retains the core mechanic makes me happy.

(Tandem) #34

ff on default

(jazevec) #35

Damage reflection would be sweet for hitscan weapons. That’s because player immediately gets feedback and a warning. It would discourage it very well. It’s also a pretty good solution to bleeders. A very good motivation for self-improvement. While it’s a double-edged sword - someone can stand in front of your mg42 - no other mechanism can fix this particular griefing style.

For airstrikes, artillery etc: no complaint possible if only 1 player was teamkilled, automatic complaint if 2+ are teamkilled. This would prevent running into airstrike just to file a complaint. Griefers would have to operate in teams, and this is unheard of.

(DarkangelUK) #36

Agreed, reflection for guns only… explosives should kill team mates. Would stop users launching grenades or air strikes into a group of players and willing to take the sacrifice if it means killing 2+ enemies… suicide bombing.

(jazevec) #37

I remember a radio message along the lines “You’re in the target area, get out of there” when using Airstrike in ET:QW. Was that only for the field op, or for all other players as well ? In any case, ET:QW style airstrike indicators would be great to reduce accidental teamkilling.

(Mustang) #38

All players heard the message.

(BioSnark) #39

Strogg-on-strogg bombardment. Why would you want to exit the area if you can experience it?

As for reflection, people rushing into a line of fire (or onto grenade/strike) was always rather annoying for all parties. It will become more so. Not necessarily against reflect but there are drawbacks.

(loekino) #40

So you gonna lose HP by shooting a teammate who could just have jumped in my fire? How about a referee system, to kick the bleeders instead of implementing a frustrating game mechanic. Now those guys have the option to just run in front of you to grief even harder @_@
