No, it wouldn’t.

Most of the kill whoring CoD kids play objective modes because it’s much easier to kill someone who is trying to complete an objective rather than someone who is trying to kill you.
Those idiots will still lose the game.

lol. I noticed in most of the pre release videos that the people are playing lone wolf style and complaining the bots don’t follow their path instead of sticking with the bots. Like I said before, the bots are playing it right, you get punished if you play wrong

(Shotgun Surgeon) #45

That’s actually what I’m worried about. There’s no TDM in this game, but that doesn’t mean players will go for the objectives just because there are objectives. I suspect that a majority of gamers will just go for kills instead of objectives. After a while, I’m sure they’ll go back to whatever game they came from, leaving Brink with objective-minded players.

(RadBrad31) #46

I don’t see that being the case. Although I could be wrong, haven’t played it yet.

People like to be rewarded. And they also like to be high on the scoreboard. SD is obviously going to reward people near objectives and for completing objectives much more than players just in the middle of nowhere getting kills. I think once the KDR whores realize they’re getting lower on the scoreboard than other players, they’ll either /ragequit and go back to COD, or they’ll start playing correctly to get higher in the ranks.

That’s what I predict, but I’ve been wrong before.
Yeah, and my name isn’t Brad and I hate the word Rad. You’re an oxymoron to your own name! Wtf mang.

And Jess, thanks. I dig your bluntness on these forums. +1.
maybe he just really likes fish

well. you can keep your “grown ups” to yourself. i am a grown up. i grew up with deathmatch.

also, i disagree. it only needs the sdk and maps to support team deathmatch. restrict classes and abilities, build new maps designed for team deathmatch and you have yourself a team deathmatch mode.

anyways. something completely different…

few days ago i saw a video for a brink presentation in frankfurt. the founder of the esl was there and gave an interview. he stated that they are actually thinking about adding a 1on1 tournament league for brink, but need to figure out how or if it works.

what about that? if no team deathmatch then duel mode? of course the points above apply, too. you still need to design new maps and restrict classes and abilities.

i think it would be awsome to have a 1on1 duel mode.

I’ve recently become a convert after my original TDM thread (probably the 999th TDM thread in the Brink forums).

Originally i felt TDM would draw the crowds and create a HUGE Brink community.

But after many months of playing Black Ops, Halo: Reach and the recent Gears 3 Beta I’ve come to the conclusion…who wants THAT crowd? Trying to actually play objective games in their multiplayer communities is a serious headache!

Not to say that there isnt some talented “team minded” players in said communities, but the majority of that crowd are just there to kill, NOTHING ELSE!

I’m sick to death of KOTH games where my teammates do nothing but shoot at the hill. Or not even that! I play to win the game, not boost my K/D.

Hopefully Brink can transcend this and not be taken over by these “Lone Wolves”.

Well said Zekariah

Me too - and I still enjoy it  QuakeLive is excellent, when all you really fancy is blitzing around some maps at full speed and trying to splat everything in sight. I’m pretty average at high-speed FFA these days, but the fun is still there. It’s definitely best kept to the games designed for it though, in my opinion

I’m struggling to see the point of stripping out virtually every mechanic in the game, in order to facilitate 1v1. Sure you could restrict this and that, but mostly you’d be removing stuff and potentially having to design all your maps from scratch as you mentioned. Since Brink is aimed at teams and objectives, removing both of those essentially means you should be looking elsewhere for a starting point, I think

Also, I think we can be fairly sure that the answer to the big question is:

SD will not add DM or TDM modes to Brink
Third part mod-makers may add these modes, IF SD is able to release the SDK
