Suggestion: Hotfix Phantom before the double weekend
inb4 Stoker release. “OMG MOLOTOVS OP. LAST TOO LONG AND BLOCKS OFF ENTIRE SECTIONSS OF THE MAP!!!”

inb4 Phoenix release. “OMFG SELF REZ OP. DONT EVEN NEED MEDICS WHEN UR PHOENIX!!!”

etc etc
Whatever merc/weapon combination you are using right now was once overpowered or underpowered and needed to be adjusted at some point. That’s how game balancing works, don’t be so immature. The devs already stated Phantom would be tweaked it’s just a question of when. Every new merc gets tweaked.

(aRagRappy) #22

I think phantom mostly needs some team utility as a recon added to him since as he is now
he’s just a terrible assault class. A better fix to the spinning crap would be to remove the
active frames after the stab so if you miss the stab you just die instead of being able to keep
running at them or turning to someone and still hit them.

(Ghosthree3) #23

@MissMurder I miss your old icon.

(imPuls3) #24

its simple its a horrible class for a competitive shooter. You cant give invisibility 1 shot kill with no natural counter and then stack armor and good smg. In my opinion he has to be nerfed big time in order to save competitive play period.

(PurpleNurple) #25

He’s crap in competitive so you don’t need to worry about that. He’s only good in unorganized games where people are playing to have fun. He’s called the pubstomper because he’s only good against people who want to have fun/not tryhard. He offers nothing to a comp team.

(imPuls3) #26

no not at all except camping every plant obj in the game

He really just needs a slight tweak on his cloak. I purchased Phantom yesterday and played as him, I noticed that I actually died a lot, especially to shotgun classes. People are starting to know how to counter him by waiting for him to lunge attack and you can dodge it by jumping up and down and after than blast 2 shots of shotgun rounds into his face.
Kinda the same story as when Rhino and Nader came out.
If you melee only you will do bad and die a lot. You will annoy people but you won’t carry a team. If you use your Kek/Crotnzi, however, and flank a lot you can carry a team due to your damage output + evasion/absorption. That’s where I think he has the most problem even if most don’t realize it yet.

He’s definitely not a melee only class.
But he is a melee focused class though, and he is useful for when you are on defender’s side.
He has melee options which isn’t the same thing as being melee focused. He is a gun class like every other merc and he has access to two of the best SMG’s in the game. And using his cloak to put you into position to use that gun effectively while also having really good melee makes him strong.

But people who play him as “melee only” simply get out of position and die all the time and do little for their team. Would you rather drop 25 people on a side going melee only or 50-70 by flanking and shooting in the side/back and killing chasers with invis + blade? I know which I prefer to do.

So jelly of the snap at 0:34, the dream.

Haha, and right after that I tried to blow up a Proxy with their own mine and got an Aura instead :frowning: Life is cruel.
so we are now 3 days after phantom’s release. I have been able to get some games in against teams with multiple, decent phantoms.

Once you learn how a good phantom plays, they aren’t as big of a problem to counter as a lot of you are making them out to be. Am I alone?
Still a big problem. Especially when there’s 3 on a team, and two of them camp out spawn with a sparks not far away for revive.

Nvm the fact that his cloak armor renders sniper headshots, mines, turrets, and air support all useless.

Teams spend so much time focused on taking out just him, that the game slows to a crawl and objectives dont get done. (unless you happen to have your own Phantom, but even then its just a melee fest)
This happened at the attacker’s third stage spawn for Trainyard.

(KayDubz) #31

Yeah, im confused of where its better to actually speak to devs and other players. Is it here? Is it reddit? Is it Warchest?

(KayDubz) #32

He deserves no shield at all. He’s already got a cloak. Why does he need a shield on top of that?

(Keelin) #33

The thing the confuses me most about Phantom is “why is he even in the game?”

I agree that people are overreacting on calling him OP, because you really do get used to playing against him.

There is a lot that doesn’t make sense also, like the shield. I’m fine with him having an smg so that he isn’t worthless in a situation where he can’t get in close. But most Phantoms I see just use the shield as a means to charge in and not to sneak.

A stealth character should be risk-reward, and currently I do believe there is a bit more reward than risk, but I don’t think it is that bad.

My issue is that this is a shooter, not a first person melee game. Running in and bouncing around the room to get a kill with the cricket bat is so much fun because of how difficult it can be to pull off. Having a character whose purpose is that just kinda takes something away from it.

(Keelin) #34

Oh, and his attack animations need work…

(MTLMortis) #35

Yeah, he swings that sword like it’s a lead pipe or doing katas.

(GhosteyGhost) #36

Guys I just played phantom. I was 45/13 with 4 aces and godlike. Well before I bought phantom (yesterday) I saw many players playing it. And it is actually REALY easy to counter. I mean like vasili’s hearth beat grenade makes you unable to go in cloack, you can hear him, you can even see him if your eyes are normal. So what I’m trying to say is, that you shouldn’t nerf him. He is extremly fun to play and not even that op… I mean like you have to 2 hit everyone. So players with skill won’t let me stab them because they see me before i even get close to them. Even if I get to them, I hit them once and than they start jumping like crazy and they often get out of my sight and kill me. So this is probably best merc so far and katana isn’t that very strong if you look from different view. I mean like it strikes so slowly and you can easily miss your attack. And the invisibilty cloack is really short so you can’t be in long, but it takes ages to re-fresh.

So what I’m trying to say is that he is kinda balanced. You can kill him like every merc. He may be annoying but you have to learn his weaknes. Eventualy you’ll see that he isn’t even strong.

(Ghosthree3) #37

Another 2 weeks and most people will have stopped playing him and only those that are actually good at the class will be able to do anything. Especially if he gets the minor nerfs he’s probably going to get.
