Skilled players running me out of my level 7 games.

I promise you its not. I focus the objective EVERY MISSION I need to. It’s what Proxy does besides planting bombs and dying really easy.

The idea of someone playing ‘Rambo Proxy’ is pretty funny. She can take one sniper hit, one shotgun hit, maybe 3 or 4 rifle hits and sometimes as few as 3 secondary hits. Who, knowing how easy she is to kill, would look at her and thing ‘Rambo’? Proxy is for mining objectives and corridors to deny passage, mining groups of enemies to catch them off guard and explode someone, and mostly doing repairs and setting C4.

As I stated, I was accused of ‘not moving around enough’ by one person; the other didn’t even give a reason, just voted to kick me, and I was in the middle of the ratings page for what I was doing for the team. In both cases, I would run/sneak in for EV repair, and set the C4 several times. I even carried the detonator once, and got pretty close, but saw that wasn’t a job for a squishy like myself.

…I don’t know what else to do at this point to play her effectively in the eyes of my teammates.

Oh okay, I may have taken it the wrong way. This doesn’t seem like a very common problem, you may have gotten unlucky with some nasty players.

You’d be surprised at how many people play a “rambo” style Proxy. I see it every other game or so. There’s that one player thinking they can wreck the other team with a shotgun and two mines. Oddly enough, it actually works on occasion. However, it’s one way to really irritate teammates!

If you can’t really play other mercs, I suggest to try Sawbonez. He is much closer to the “standard” medic than Aura, I don’t even know why Aura is the default instead of him.

Anyway, he only costs 30k credits, which you can earn a few days if you focus on your missions. If you have some more time, Phoenix is fun to play as well.

Why am I suggesting playing a medic?

  • They are very useful (even overpowered) if you play them properly (if one team has a decent medic, and the other doesn’t the team with the medic wins)
  • You learn to play with your team while playing medic
  • Doesn’t matter if you have bad aim, if you focus on healing/reviving - in fact, my bro always switches to the knife for faster run speed, and gets 30-40k points without even firing a shot
  • Sawbonez has the SMG-9 and the Blislok which are easy to use (Phoenix has the KEK and the Hochfir). Both have the Crotzni, which is one of the best SMGs, but not really new player friendly
  • Even if you are not the best medic of your region, as long as you heal/revive and don’t prioritize killing over doing your job or keep the heals only for yourself, you will never get votekicked

After you’ve learnt to position yourself and cooperate with your team, and you are confident with your aim, you are ready to learn other roles such as engineer.

There must be a reason for people wanting to kick you.

Sometimes people are getting kicked simply for playing a certain merc, hands down. While frontal assault isn’t exactly what Proxy is meant for I don’t see anything horribly wrong with the OP’s gamestyle description. As long as the objective gets played engineers should be free to contribute in whichever way they see fit. On the other hand, Proxy has a certain reputation amongst the self-proclaimed professional players so she gets a lot of flak just for the hell of it (much like Vas).

As a level 44 I do vote kick players who I feel don’t contribute enough towards the game or players who are just playing poorly.

Go play Min level 10/20 servers if you care that much. The only reason someone should be kicked is for being afk. If it bothers you so bad, then find another server to play on. That’s the beauty of pubs, you can drop in/drop out at will.

There’s literally no reason to vote-kick bad players in pubs.

(Tom2160) #25

@bgyoshi By bad players, I’m referring to those players that decide to run back to the first objective and go ‘exploring’. In other words, REALLY bad.

Show them the switchlevel command why dontcha? If they keep on trying to be Colombus, and mess around the MG nest at Trainyard while you’re delivering the data cores, then call a vote kick.

What i’f they’re actually exploring the map? That’s what i did first.
I mean, what you’re suggesting here is a non-issue,because that problem only happens to low levels, past a certain level or amount of time in the server, this problem disappears and they actually get to play.
I’f they’re trolling,they suck at it,and you shouldn’t care at all.

(Tom2160) #28

@Pumpkiller Personally, I believe anyone under level 5 should stick to the min level 6 servers as it gives them an opportunity to explore the maps, play against players with an equal lack of knowledge of the game and adjust to the playstyle the game offers. If this was implemented it would mean that new players could explore and learn how to play whereas for the higher level players it means that they can play a match with somewhat competent players.

(pumpkinmeerkat) #29

Player account level should be hidden or removed entirely as it only distracts from the real issue. Pubs are pubs. They aren’t supposed to be the most balanced or “on meta”. DB needs a better way for players of equal skill to play together, both competitively and casually.

Community servers would accomplish this, casual matchmaking would accomplish this, DBN pugs are accomplishing this currently. Ranked does not accomplish this - ranking system is based on win/loss, not enough players, long queue times that only get longer as rank increases, no merc limits or bans.

(KangaJoo) #30

@DarenaBryant Would you mind posting a recording from the beginning of a match where this happens? It’d be a lot easier for us to see what it is that you’re doing to so consistently trigger people that you get vote kicked on a regular basis since chances are you’re getting kicked for something you don’t know and therefore aren’t/can’t explain to us.

(SnakekillerX) #31

I kick noobs when they are on the wrong side of the map… Like sometimes we are pushing 2nd or 3rd obj, and they are running around 1st obj spawn.

This is not helpful, and they are not learning anything either, its just a wasted slot.

If you want to learn the map, then play the game… take the same route a couple times until you know what to expect, then take a different route so you can see how the map comes together.

Walking around the map just to learn it while in the middle of a game is annoying for people in that game, and will contribute to your team’s loss. This does warrant a vote kick.

Also… If you get voted out most games, then that means that the majority of players wanted you kicked, not just that one or two higher level players. The majority voted, and you were kicked off the island.

(Xyfurion) #32

It’s like what my AP Chemistry teacher always said
PPP, PMP.
Practice, practice, practice, because practice makes perfect.
It’s a matter of time. Eventually, despite the negative experiences, you will learn from your mistakes and become the better player. I believe in you :3

Never stop playing proxy, thrive on the hate.

(Xenithos) #34

Playing as a kamikaze proxy never got ME kicked…

Maybe you might have killed some enemies as well, not just yourself :o

(CyberVonCyberus) #36

@DarenaBryant I’ve read both this thread and the one you made on steam and I must say that you are exaggerating at this point, unless you are doing something idiotic beyond belief (trust me i play phantom while drunk/tired so I have a lot of experience about doing stupid stuff) you will rarely get kicked

you won’t encounter nolife gamers who ruin everyone’s fun all the time like you are claiming, and anyways life is not all sunshine and rainbows, some people will be mean for no reason and if you abandon what you like doing just because someone told you they don’t like the way you smell, you won’t get anywhere in life

Sadly there’s not a lot we can do to resolve this for now. We’re working our asses off at the moment to to complete casual matchmaking which will resolve all of these issues though.

Ya really think tryhards are going to care? Those sods yell more than Gordon Ramsay, and are as incompetent themselves as my elementary gym teacher

Casual is still a very welcome feature however, can’t wait to see what kind of stupid feats and strats people come up with when there’s no competitive pressure.
