As for Server Browser (SB), it’s inherently floored due to the ease of it becoming unbalanced. In an ideal world, all players would be using CMM. A decent chunk of players consistently use SB and if they were to move across to CMM queues would be shorter and matches better balanced (spread the word). Our focus to solve this still falls to commercial release (or 1.0 release of DB) as with this there will be marketing and a ton of new players coming to the game.
In past fps games (including ET), CMM didn’t exist at all. We only had server browser and i can’t recall all this “whine” about unbalanced games. Sure, there were games that were clearly unbalanced, in both ways, but we lived with that and today we’re still playing multiplayer fps games.
CMM may solve the balance problem, but it will delete the community part. In a server browser mode, people join a server and plays several games on the same server, with same people. Social link are created and some friendship is born. People may even tend to join the same server over days because they try to play with the same other players if they enjoyed it. Even further, some community may create themselves among some servers (look at actual rented servers or min lvl servers).
In CMM, you play once, gg and bye. You don’t even have any time to chat with people (except during the game) because people usually start another research right after the end.
