Never take it personally, we all want you to release the best map that you can. We’re not flaming you, we’re telling you actual issues. Also, check that demo to see quite a dissapointing route =)

(Ifurita) #43

Flash, look at it this way.

As a final release, I thought it was quite lacking - not all the way there.

As a beta release, it is what I wish all the other mappers would do, release a map that is quite polished and actually extensively play tested with a group of people.

I’m really tired of mappers who release betas that look like they just finished their first brainstorming session.

So, for your efforts, a big thanks and you certainly have this tester’s appreciation.

Somehow i like ifurita’s comments, they are always usefull, not only bad, very good and stuff. At least he (she?) posted a usefull message, not a dumb one like this :stuck_out_tongue: . Sorry, needed to say this, go back on topic again

Naah it’s all good, and I’m glad Flash95 has taken it the way it was meant.
Finishing a map is a VERY hard process.

Like most things, it takes 50% of your time to get it (the map) 90% finished, and at this stage most people simply churn out their map (usually in various revisions as massive bugs become evident).

It’s people who are prepared to do the extra 10% that takes just as long as the rest that will bring out the maps that people really want to play.

I think we’ve got over the initial ‘MUST HAVE MORE MAPS TO PLAY’ splurge that resulted in such ‘wonderful’ maps as Carnage Canyon, and we should all now settle down to creating POLISHED maps that won’t bugger up either the ET custom scene, or our own reputations.

Congrats to Flash for even bothering to get his map playtested - it may not have picked up all the issues, but it’s a damn good start.

(Ifurita) #46

For what it’s worth, a mapper that appreciates and takes into consideration, the time of his/her play testers will get much further than a mapper who doesn’t. If I DL a beta map that is full of obvious mistakes or just plain crappy, I will never test another one of that mapper’s maps. On the other hand, if I know a beta released will be refined and 90% of the way there, I am much more willing to download it, give it a go, and look for issues

Heres a nice little tip for you. If you want to improve ANY map, listen to user input, if its a legit suggestion, then you should work toward that. Remember, althought it might have made you happy, it will not make the players happy, and when you are making something for everyone else, its THEM that comes most importantly. Sure it may sound weird, but if you want people to play your map and like it, listen to the issues they have with the map. Chances are, you’ll make 50% of more people happy with each bug you fix.

(Flash95) #48

Great comments guys.
I have looked at the demo of the bug and was suprised it was missed.
Guess I never thought about trying it when some one was shooting at me.

I will continue to work on this map and look for input from all of you great guys here in the forum

lets see where did I put that bug list…

(cremator) #49

Good luck, and please don’t try to rush it out. Although you might see some good maps getting released, rushing your out doesn’t mean it will be a hit…just make sure its good and everything is worked out.

(Flash95) #50

dont worry I will wait till its ready now that I know what everyone expects.
if you have any ideas in the mean time send them my way .
if I use them I will give you credit…

Well, across from the water, there is a BIG empty area…mabey something there would be cool…

(Blackadder_NZ) #52

As the old saying goes…

The cream always rises to the top

(Flash95) #53

yea I am thinking allied base of some kind but that kills the realism…
perhaps an axis communications post but its too close to the allied spawn…

oh wait Ive just got it a broken ski lift that the allies can repair and ride in to the base.

the axis must come out and distory it… somthing like that…

darn now I have to figure out how to make movable stuff

Hm, this post may sort of be out of date, but I was away a few days and did not have a chance to look at River War until now, I did not find any server running it so I just browsed it on my own to see what it looked like.

Not to critizice here and since I really did not see the gameplay of it, but is there nothing more than a long river and a fort for axis to defend ?
(Just curious, but won’t that get “old” quite quickly, ok like RtCW Beach it could of course become a classic, but personally I don’t see much room to use ET specific features or am I wrong :???: )

Also, one minor detail, not affecting the actual gameplay itself but to get the feeling right; you seem to have located some actual ww2 propaganda posters, i.e. those in the Axis spawn, but they are Norwegian, while the map is placed on the Swedish/Finnish border on the command map.
No big deal…

(Flash95) #55

you are right about the posters when I complete this map that will be corrected…
Its on my list.

Okay, I am now thoroughly impressed with this forum. Very constructive criticism…

Thank you,

I dunno. I’m kinda uncertain about that name. On principle, that is.

Not that I am any better, because I know exactly what you are talking about.

Hehe, Fusen != Geek :slight_smile:

FYI, He’s referring to the Heisenburg Principle, it’s a quantum mechanics thing. Google for it if you give a rat’s ass.

omg, that means I’m a geek too. I’m so unprepared for this moment. :uhoh:
