I think that driver is for desktops. This link has the driver for laptops:

But unfortunately under the “supported products” link and at the bottom under “Notes:” it says
“Notebooks supporting Hybrid Power technology with Intel chipsets are not supported by this release.”
So I went to the Acer website and got the latest driver, at least as far as I know…
I’ll look into the possibility of a workaround (such as a console command), but there’s not much we can do if your drivers haven’t been maintained.
Is everyone else who is experiencing this issue on a Laptop?
How are you reinstalling the game, through Steam? It seems odd that a bunch of people have fixed it by reinstalling.
Try deleting the splash damage folder in [B]…\Users#user#\AppData\Local[/B] and reinstalling the game through Steam.
Hello everyone I am having the same issue as everyone else.
I am currently running Brink on Windows 7 32 bit on early 2009 iMac via Bootcamp. I have a 4xxx series ATI Radeon card however I cannot find any updates for the driver Bootcamp has provided me (some weird version of Geforce GT 120?)
Multiple installs have not helped the issue.

It looks like you have the latest driver, do you have switchable graphics (like one graphics card that saves power, and another that uses more power for video games)?

Just wanted to confirm this does not work. I had previously downloaded the program with the same intent however I did not notice any graphical difference while running Brink.
Bump. Me too. I just downloaded the game yesterday and I’m having problems with the black square issue with smoke particles too…
So far my attempted fixes are re-installing the game and updating the graphics driver.
My computer is a Alienware Mx11 with a hybrid Invidia gt335 card.
So i don’t shoot myself in the head for wasting $50, finding a fix would be great. 
We’ve investigated this issue and the only possible solution is to obtain the latest Nvidia drivers.
I’ve updated the link here with some information regarding users of ‘M’-class (mobile) graphics cards. Please check your specific model and read Nvidia/AMD’s information regarding compatibility before updating.
For Apple users: officially Brink does not support running in bootcamp.
I updated my drivers and everything works fine now. If are using an NVIDIA video card, just go to NVIDIA.com, click on the “download drivers” tab, use the Automatic Driver Detection feature, it will find and install the drivers for you.
IF YOU DON’T HAVE AN NVIDIA CARD:
You should be able to use google to help you figure out what kind of video card you have (if you don’t already know). From there, go DIRECTLY to the manufacture’s website, they should have the drivers you need. If you download a random file that someone CLAIMS is the updated driver, you could be downloading just about ANYTHING. So, it’s better to stick with the manufacturer.
This game is WELL worth the little effort.
