And yet no mention whatsoever about the OpenGL crashes. Great.

I gave the TdrDelay registry key a try, and while I know it did something, it didn’t prevent the crash. It just created a longer delay between the time the crash began, and the point with which Windows reset the graphics driver.
Depressing and true.
Edit: “Graphical performance has been improved, especially when using Ambient Occlusion. We’ve worked closely with both AMD and NVIDIA, and you should see performance and stability improvements in future driver revisions from both parties.”
Read: The OpenGL fix will take about 3-weeks, if not longer!
No “We’re working on it”
No “we’ve got an ETA on the fix”
Nothing.
Perhaps it’s refund time.
Can we please have an update? Don’t mean to tell you how to do your job, but part of public relations would be to keep your community aware of your progress in resolving this crippling error.
Saying nothing at all and leaving everyone in the dark is very unprofessional, especially towards those of us who preordered this game in good faith many months ago who are still unable to play.
Thanks in advance
EDIT: Just read the blog posted earlier - there is a fix for the sound bug which has annoyed me, but no mention of a fix for this issue. Can we have an update specific to this problem please?

Well said.

One more reasonable request to be ignored, right Crispy?
It seems very… wrong to have such a big problem put low on the list of ‘things to fix’.
I mean, this bug isn’t some sound problem, or a glitch in the graphics. It’s completely stopping us from playing the game.

Asus might be right. SD may not have a clue as to what the problem is and are depending on ATI/nV to come up with a solution.
To be honest, i can’t be assed this game anymore. Iv’e already moved on. i would want a refund.
Hello
First excuse me for my poor english.
After few days, I find a solution for the “OpenGL error code 8” and the “lost connection” (and black screen) for Brink and all other of my application using openGL
I’ve put the PCI-E frequency (in the BIOS) from “Auto” to “Manual” and 100Mhz (default PCI-E frequency)
Now all is OK and I can play Brink and run all other program normally!
I hope you enjoy and it will work for you!
If you enjoy the game “Command and Conquer”, visit our New Mod under construction --> http://www.cnc-sgu.fr/
Hope you enjoy too!
while i find this a bit hard to believe, i’m willing to give it a try. At first my game crashed about once or twice a day, but today it crashed 5 times within 3 hours.
Testing this now and will report back

I think we all appreciate your efforts J, but I refuse to modify my computer in so fundamental a fashion. I have perhaps 30 games loaded across 6 HDD’s, and all of them function just fine without a special change to my BIOS for any one of them.
I don’t know about the rest of you, but I can clearly remember when you could expect a complete product when you bought a game. This is not to say that games were perfect back in the day, but at least you could start them up and enjoy your investment right away. Over time we gave them an inch and look what we’re getting for it, in many cases incomplete and bug-ridden products, not to mention customer service that could curdle milk.
I can only speak for myself in this but I say: “This far, but no further.”
He probably will still crash, he just hasn’t had one yet.
Changing your pci-e frequency to 100 does absolutely nothing, since it’s already 100 on automatic mode.
One reason for you: test your products.
Minesweeper is more fun than brink for a simple reason: I can play it.
and i can clearly remember having a lot of problems getting the sound of duke nukem 3d to work, not to mention the frequent crashes it caused with my first 3dfx card. System shock 1 & 2 were bug-ridden like hell when they came out. The original Myst was buggy when it came out. And that was back in the nineties. So, when was that mystical time you’re referring to?
Plus, I remember a time where people stayed on topic in forum-threads and kept their bitchin’ and whining in the threads where it belonged. If you wanna rage, that’s fine, but do it in the appropriate place and stop filling the tech-threads with your vocal diarrhea
b2t: I played for 2 hours straight now without crashing with the pci-e freq. set to 100 MHz manually, but as dlux wrote, it’s probably placebo, cause you don’t rly change anything, as it also runs on 100 MHz when it’s set to auto.
I also noticed that i can play considerably longer if I set the threaded renderer to 1, but I get like 15-30 fps more if I set it to 0 despite the fact that I have a Quad Core PhenomII
Are you for real? DOS games soundblaster support was always kind of meh, lets not compare 16 year old DOS games to windows 7.
Games back then were tested WAY more thouroughly then they do now, that’s a plain fact.
You couldn’t just release a buggy game, because only a small percentage of gamers had internet to download a patch.
Also there was no way to bring out a patch for console games.
Just for reply, when your PCI-E frequency is “Auto” it’s not stay at 100Mhz (range from ~98 to ~103Mhz depending of PCI-E and PSU voltage)
I’ve play 5hours without any crash or other error report (before that, 15min playing crash)
Before find that solution, i’ve most probleme in OpenGL with most other application (3D studio MAX, Photoshop, Furmark, OpenGL Extension Viewer) and now No problem.
For me it work, to you to see… i’m not selling anything
