Well, I still feel that limiting to one of each Merc per team at a time would really help ensure you at least have the needed mercs on the field (for the most part). I understand then you run into problems with the 3 Merc limit and such but I am sure it could be looked into. I believe a Guide system could be implemented that would teach players how to play the game until you turn it off in the options menu. Left 4 Dead had a similar system where it would point you in the right direction…

ie, if you was using a Bushwacker and you was fighting in the middle of the map but a C4 was planted it would tell you to go and defuse and point arrows on the floor in the right direction (fastest direction). If your turret is not down it could remind you also. If you leave your teams location the game could tell you to fall back and also give you little extra bits of tips once you die to a certain aspect. Tell the person why they died to a landmine and how they can tell where they are in future and how to avoid the max damage.

This would be the best, cheapest and most effective way of getting people battle ready with new Mercs when the game is fully released.

Simple things like adding a mini objective marker for high valued team members when running as a medic, reminding you to drop ammo when using a field ops and to be at the front of a fight when playing a solly.

I don’t like the idea of limiting choices.

Well said!

I liked this part especially:

"We don’t get prolonged periods of seeing LTs dishing out ammo, engies planting while being covered, medics picking up people, Soldiers tying up choke points with a panzer etc. We get snippets of it - it’s all bitty. "

This what RTCW and Wolf:ET is about.

If DB is supposed to be about this, I dont know.

I dont know who DB is for.
