Reistance v. Founders (Security)

(Slade05) #121

Oh, Clancy`s lunacy is an awesome reference point!

(tokamak) #122

Does one need to participate in an armed revolution before one requires to be considered? How is this relevant?

You don’t know that, neither do you know if they’re actually being denied contact by the founders.

(Seyu) #123

Just that only those who have been pushed to edge are willing to lay down their lives for change.
Anyway, disregard that. It wasn’t anything more than rhetoric, my bad.

You don’t know that, neither do you know if they’re actually being denied contact by the founders.

Isn’t this canon?

(tokamak) #124

Apparently they’re denied to leave but it might very well be Brother Chen who wants his army to stay and take over the Ark for himself rather than leave.

(Seyu) #125

What makes you think that is the case?

(Slade05) #126

Well, they do have “Leave Ark” archievement at the end of Resistance campaign.
As for Foundersintent to make them stay, it was said that humble folks keep Ark running, so its kind of medieval economics 101.

(tokamak) #127

The resistance obviously isn’t required to make the Ark run or a simple strike would suffice.

I’m not saying it’s the case I’m saying that the conditions of the contemporary ark are unknown therefore not interesting to discuss. Both sides of the discussion simply present the most favourable version anyway.

(II Captain K II) #128

I stand by what I said. I think the Ark doesn’t belong to anyone, or rather it belongs to everyone. I still question the legitimacy of the founder’s “ownership” of the Ark. They used the Earth’s resources, and nobody gave them permission to do so. I am talking meta-ownership type stuff here, I’m not questioning the fact that they probably bought all the materials, I am saying that to take from the Earth more than you are entitled to by nature, which belongs to everyone (including lower animals, I might add) to preserve yourself is unfair. I am of the OPINION (<---- opinion yes) that we are all entitled to an equal share of the furnishings of nature, and as such we would all be theoretically entitled to an equal share of the Ark, which is obviously impossible.

(II Captain K II) #130

No seriously, what claim does one have to take more than they need from the earth? lets not take these issues for granted…

(Mr. Magikarp) #131

I think Captain K’s a hippy.

(tokamak) #132

A hippycrite, someone living in a country with the biggest ecological footprint per head, approx four times what is considered sustainable preaching about not taking more from nature than they need.

The founders however made a 100% sustainable place, keeping emissions to a minimum in the construction and lived on a minimum ecological footprint.

(H0RSE) #133

Umm, they live on the Ark as well, so going on strike/refusing to maintain the Ark would/could have repercussions for them as well.

(tokamak) #134

You either think your job is worth doing or you think your job is not worth doing.

(Seyu) #135

Pretty sure that their strikes and parades would have been put down by a heavy hand.

(tokamak) #136

They don’t need to parade, they only would have to stop doing their job. Provided that they actually have a job of any importance.

(H0RSE) #137

It’s not really that cut and dry. A lot of people go to work not because they believe their job is worth doing, but because they have kids to feed and a mortgage to pay, regardless the importance or lack of, that pertains to the job - Going to work and being miserable is better than having a starving homeless family.

In the case of the Ark, it’s very rational to think that the refugee’s continue to work on the Ark, not because they choose to, but because they have to. Failure to do so, could result in the endangerment or deaths of others, including themselves. And unlike the real world, the refugee’s can’t simply search the classifieds for another job or relocate. The do it because they have to.

(tokamak) #138

Which makes it a job worth doing.

(Seyu) #139

The parade thing was a joke. I think by ‘Security crackdowns’ we can assume that any dissident activity wasn’t tolerated.

(H0RSE) #140

You are arguing semantics, like usual.

A job worth doing because you believe in it and/or enjoy it, is one thing.
A job “worth doing,” because not doing it will have dire consequences, regardless if you personally hate doing it and/or don’t believe in it at all, is something else.
