Real concerns over Brinks Rank system

Epic fail.

BTW, if I want to play an FPS (like BRINK), it’s to shot at people, not to press the use bouton which will carrying me to the objective and make me complete it.
And again, a matchmaking based only on total XP seems to be really inaccurate and broken, but we all know that it won’t be fixed so let’s end this discussion here.

(tokamak) #142

You’re at the wrong game then, Tapir Wars 3 will be your cup of tea.

(AnthonyDa) #143

Look who says that, “ho the irony !”.

I still think killing is the most important factor, Now the comp team I’ am in has done well and destroyed some teams but let me tell you about 1 time.

We played Bailed out and Mamut probablly the two best Clans in Europe at the time. They apsolutely destroyed us, I mean it was rediclous we spent 20mins in our spawn and hardly touched the 1st objective let alone complete the map.

Seriously I spent more time dead than alive at the end our team averaged around 12-15kills each they had 40+ each between them.

If we even got remotely close to the objective we were put down immediatly and that was it, wait till you respawn only to be killed again.

Im sure Nilco will agree with me he was there on the day playing alongside me, Ryan aswell.
So happened to be one of the most funny games I have ever played though, We got owned so bad it was funny.
Now try telling me killing isn’t important.

(tokamak) #145

It really doesn’t matter what you think is the most important factor, the game says who wins, which is the team that fulfilled it’s task accordingly, not the team that killed the most.

I just remembered that some Aero member once asked if I was hacking because I could always pick his disguise out on Island on a pub. Several times this lead to a comedy chase through crowds of my team with the Aero guy doing figures of 8 around Stroggs while I tried to pick him off with the lightning pistol. Eventually I had to reveal that his footsteps were different and he wised up. Who was that?

With everyone wearing shoes in Brink at least that won’t be a problem.

^pretty much this - I think you are confusing “killing is important,” with “killing can be important.”

Also, in your example, that team was on defense - where pretty much their only goal is to keep you from the objectives…which means killing.

(AnthonyDa) #148

What kind of “tasks to full fill accordingly” is the defence supposed to do if it’s not “fraggin out as much opponent as possible” ?

(H0RSE) #149

that was the flaw in his argument - it was one sided. He used a example where all they really had to was kill. 9 times out of 10, offense is always harder than defense.

(DarkangelUK) #150

Well if all you can do is frag and not much else, defense is the best place to be… but you’re not always on defense. I would want someone like that on my team regardless, but i’m hoping the realization is there that fragging isn’t everything… but yes it helps.

(ispellcorrectly) #151

But the think that really concerns me, will it kill clan competition just like the matchmaking Killed Modern Warfare 2?

We will not be able to host our own servers… it pains me, it will purely be a co-op game, something which is there but with no spark…

(DarkangelUK) #152

There’s dedicated servers, and it has been confirmed you can host your own.

(tokamak) #153

Keep themselves alive, buff the other teammates, keep their turrets up, deny pathways, sabotage the enemy, construct barriers.

As long as you keep them from completing the objective it really doesn’t matter one bit if you kill them or not.

(H0RSE) #154

Also, killing is one thing, spawn camping the shit out of the team is another…

(tokamak) #155

That’s just something that needs to be addressed any way.

But back on the matchmaking system. Just look at blizzard’s new system:
http://us.battle.net/matchmaking.html

(.Chris.) #156

Shouldn’t happen with fairly even teams and good map design, if it does occur quite regularly, it’s normally down to unbalanced teams or poor map layout or both.

(tokamak) #157

Indeed, attempting to ‘ban’ spawnkilling or other handing punishments for it is just treating symptoms.

(Jamieson) #158

Ok if you really want I’ll give you an example of when we attacked…

Me and my 3 other teammates went for the objective our obj guy held back and kept himself alive, the 3 of us moved in and eliminated the defenders killing them and then gibbing them, They were then powerless to do anything and we gained area dominanace.

We then pushed up to defend the obj guy so he could complete the obj.
Its standard practice in comp to eliminate the other team and gain area dominance before doing the obj.

Its simple really, when your on the ground dead, making friends with the soil there isn’t much you can do, if your dead you cannot defend.

Sometimes it doens’t matter how good your tactics are or how well organised you are as a team, if you come up against a group of superior shooters than I would put my money on them all day long, you cannot execute your plan if your dead. If you spend more time dead than alive then you have very little influence on who wins the match.

(AnthonyDa) #159

Why matchmaking shouldn’t use win/loose ratio : http://imagik.fr/view-rl/234496
Also, it should use (at least) KDR imo.

(tokamak) #160

True, but killing you doesn’t win the opponents the game, completing the objective does.

Could you elaborate that? I don’t understand what you mean with the picture, two players carrying their team? Wouldn’t that be the result of a bad matchmaking?
