Rate/Rank your Mercs...

(INF3RN0) #21

I don’t consider those games proof enough, but if it proves to be effective amongst actual high skill teams I might change my pov.

(Loffy) #22

No particular order, but these are my favs:
Bushwacker, or any engineer so I can save my team when noone is doing that objective properly. Also potential for sneak plant.
Those snipers, so I can toss out a HearBeat/Third Eye, and perhaps that can help my team advance.
Any medic, so I can try to keep my team alive and maybe we can advance a little.

Nader (reminds me of panzerfaust and is good for destroying ev)
She does almost no damage against the EV. You need probably 20 nades to destroy it and with the pool of 6 and the slow cooldown, you are never capable of stopping it. I’d like to see the nades do more damage to structures and vehicules (there should be destroyable objectives by firing on it in game, for side objectives imo).

EDIT:
medic: sawbones
soldier: nader
engineer: proxy
fieldops: skyhammer
recon: vassily

(Anti) #24

It still surprises me how some mercs, especially the more circumstantial ones, are so underrated. I feel pretty confident that when clan play really kicks into full swing and there is something to compete for that you’ll see some of the low rated mercs now move to the top rated section.

(RasteRayzeR) #25

I’m not surprised to see the original mercs being the favorite since they were designed in the same line as the maps and gameplay. Now that you start to modify a few fundamental mechanics and hopefully the maps, for sure new mercs will fit these new settings better. From what I see the most played mercs are the closest ones to what W:ET or QW did.

(PixelTwitch) #26

Aimee is OP for sure…
The main issue is you have far to many overlapping Mercs really. Not only do Arty and Skyhammer fill the exact same role they even use the exact same base model and stats. Would have preferred to buy a Weapon other then a full new Merc personally… Aimee and Redeye, Fletcher and Proxy and even Thunder and Fragger are basically the exact same Merc with a different kit item or weapon. The whole “Merc” concept is wafer thin so if you do see some of these underrated ones rise you will likely see the current favoured one drop down to its old place.

I was really expecting to see more variation like… Rhino, Sparks, Nader, Phantom and even Phoniex.

(BrightIs) #27

You are right pixel, the overlapping mercs should be merged into 1.

We should have 2 types of character for each class a melee/close quarters and a ranged one. In fact going to think about this more and do a separate thread.

i said that a year ago!

(Violator) #29

TOP
Bushwacker (perfect primary weapon + pistol nice + turrets :))
Stoker (again good primary + pistol + molotovs :))
Vasseli (sniper rocks, MP good)
Nader (EDIT: she rocks! Nades seem a lot better and less bouncy than the last time I tried)
Redeye (fun rifle + smoke)
Fragger (nades nades nades)
Thunder (nice primary)
Rhino (OP but fun for stress relief  pistol awful)
Skyhammer
Proxy (only shotgun class I can play, mines nice + good speed)

Not really tried

Aimee (nice primary but not tried much)
Sawbones (also quite nice primary)
Aura
Phoenix

Bottom
Sparks (found primary awkward)
Arty (not a fan of semi-auto)
Kira (didn’t like the primary, beam a bit OP though)
Fletcher (ineffective shotgun + mines)
Phantom (not a fan of melee in games barring backstabs, sniper version rocked though :))

(RasteRayzeR) #30

Rhino applies to a few objectives only and hence uses one slot for being used only a bit. If you are ok with this and can rely only on 2 mercs for the rest of the match then Rhino can be a good choice. You need of course a dedicated medic with him for assistance.

I would not be surprised to see Rhino be used in comp for controlling bottlenecks like the rock in the final stage of WC.

(Ashog) #31

Well, I agree with Anti and think the best chars are hugely underrated. People just prefer a simple pewpew way of playing this game rather than using a more versatile and non-straightforward headbash character.

Also, who cares, the upcoming patch will change the board, probably quite a lot due to gunplay rebalance.

Anyhow, my list by the order of satisfaction (which comes thru balance):

TOP
Aura
Fletcher
Phoenix
Proxy
Nader
Sawbones
Sparks
Aimee

OKAY
Bushwhacker
Vassili
Phantom
Fragger

BORING/UNBALANCED/MISSING ABILITIES/BUGGED
Thunder ---- > missing additional abilities, also conc nade is ineffective. Increase effect duration.
Rhino —> as such fine, but misses addditional abilities —> boring
Stoker --> plain boring, needs more abilities
Redeye ----> red lamp in smoke is stupid —> underbalanced
Arty -----> Dislike his main weapon, is more like a gun for remote camper, unviable in close combat vs multiple enemies and fast movement, feels awkward and boring. Perhaps it’s me…
Skyhammer —> terrible recoil while in IS. Impossible to use IS, also due to view obstruction.
Kira ----> bugged Violator

(Mustang) #32

And this is exactly what is cool about having a merc system, everyone has their prefered mercs, and hopefully everyone will think a different merc is overpowered, or useless, etc.

When everyone is complaining equally then you’ve got the balance just about right.
