So, regarding the thing that there are really impatient consumers and making the game fit to those impatient consumers; this pretty much means that you think all your consumers are extremely retarded. Hence, you dumb down the game even more, and then wonder why noone plays it after the first months. This is a huge problem in the head of devs in general. The hard evidence lies in the form of SC2. This game is demanding as hell, and requires alot of patience to get better. This is the path one should take as well, not dumbing down the game to the most simple thing, like point and click FPS. How did this assumption ever came to mind, because it is how SD constructs the game. I see, nothing wrong in making the game intuitive, but the solution is not to dumb it down to the extreme …

Somebody call the wambulance…

(acQu) #263

Thanks … i just felt i type it down once, now i am much better

To be more precise: what do you think is dumbed down? Movement and maps! You have no options in the maps, it is all one path, now even Camden got cut, just a consequence of beforehand-made design decisions with movement and maps. Regarding movement: yeah, tell me what is so skill-full and fun. Nothing is skillful and nothing is fun on the movement. It is by design slowing you down, disrupting your flow, and there is nothing in the movement to learn or to perform …

I thought somehow this would be a minimum to add to the game, but DB/xT is much below this minimum. Seems you think otherwise, and yes, the characters are nice, but with that core game, no thanks!!!

EDIT gunplay not to mention …

SC2 is considered by many a hugely dumbed down version of SC: Broodwar. It’s still is a demanding game, but nowhere near as much as Starcraft: Broodwar. Granted, half the time it was fighting the interface and terrible pathing (oh dragoons, why u so dumb).

Also, SC2 has a hard time attracting new players because of it’s difficulty actually. Even with a good ladder system in place it’s gruelling at times for new players to go online and getting murdered.

Either way, I’d love at least a few mercs who have perhaps not a special ability in the sense of gadgets but perhaps have the abilty to walljump or quake 3 sort of movement at the expense of weapon damage. Like, I can totally see Proxy wall jumping in narrow streets and goomba jumping and enemy (or shotgunning from the sky)

(acQu) #266

But xT is extremely dumbed down. Almost no options in the maps, no options in movement. Just run, point, aim better or worse, rinse repeat, sometimes an objective, sometimes using your abilites, which are basically the old class abilities so far, ust a bit more different. But i say, this part is cool, just the core is a total mess and really not fun at all when you have nothing to do at the movement and basically no routes to chose from, and are constantly clashing into the enemy due to the way the maps are construcited.SC guys are pretty much, from what i have heard at least, only complaining about hotkeys and pathing, which was too easy in their eyes. Not heard anything else, why they think SC2 is dumbed down.

Nope, the game still needs lots of work, SD knows this, we know this, we all know it, the game is still in development and some way from any kind of public release where the support will continue there after. The early maps are a mess but in light of the recent footage of the cut down Camden map it gives me some little hope that perhaps those early maps can be somewhat be tweaked to be playable and enjoyable, though think it’ll be best to focus on new maps, speaking of which from what I’ve seen of battersea so far it looks like the new maps will be much better, we will see.

I’m not all that fussed about movement at the moment personally, it’s not great yet but it’s not far away from being something I could play with. Something like the suggestions made other day would be good to see though like wall jumping and that. The shooting seems to be getting slowly better, I didn’t play the game for a good few months till a couple of weeks ago though so my memory might be a bit fussy on what it started out like but it feels like it’s come far and will continue to get better, reload and sprint would be nice though, I’m not a fan of any action slowing me down.

Anyway I wouldn’t say the game is intentionally dumbed down it’s just an unfinished product with a lot left to be added into the game, it’s an alpha build.

Well, i would call disallowing strafe sprint, no stamina bar, and the slowdowns on actions an intentional design decision. That is there by puprose, by design, so intentionally. Call it dumb down, i don’t know. Fact for me is that there are no options at all regarding the movement system, not even jumping is beneficial. You just move forward and then there is this missing piece of the puzzle, where no sidewards sprint and no stamina bar meets the TTK behaviour ET.

But yes, this is a game in development. But not seeing a major change regarding the points i just mentioned. It will pretty much stay like this, unless we state that this way of infight firefights are simply not fun. But yes, the one or other way, alot of us have been saying this for ages. Just, it does not seem to come through. Dumbing down for me pretty much would be the same as removing options from players.

I am playing this game cause I see in it a lot of potential and I hope that some changes regarding theses point will come to simply make it fun, nice to watch, skill based etc… I really hope some changes are going to come at some point.
If not, I am afraid I’ll not play it for long when it comes out and I think the majority of the RTCW/ET/Quake players won’t play it for long either. It’ll become a good alternative for BF/COD players, but the “magic of ET” won’t be here.

I wonder why you try to aim for COD/BF players by adding similar gameplay in the game. Just make a unique game with his own magic as you used to do for ET. If the game is good people will come to it naturally.

I think Xt will only appeal to f2p gamers / people that know splashdamage from their previous titles.

People that play cod or bf will stick to those games. As Xt is not similar to those games and those games will get a new release this year.

From my perspective it makes no sense to aim for cod/bf players as I think they will not be attracted anyway.

Rigth now I think Xt will appeal to a small group of players (not the casuals nor the hardcore players)

(Protekt1) #271

SC2 suffers from 1 stupid design decision that impacts each 3 races that generally makes the game harder to get a handle on and it isn’t even skill based imo. That design decision is the one that forces you to complete a small task every 30-40 seconds which each race has to varying degree and completely ruins my fun of playing a race like zerg because every 30 seconds I need to control every queen individually to tell them to order more worm thingies… I hate that about the game… so much. I’m not being very articulate but IDC

I am just curious as to why the build presented at PAX (it even “felt” different) - is not being tested by us at the moment?

(Mustang) #273

The PAX changes are already in the latest alpha build, what else do you think is missing?

(Rex) #274

Lol, maybe you should play the game again.

(Hundopercent) #275

Wind quit dodging the 50$.

(WindKun) #276

my apologies; I gotta western union it - get me info - I forgot completely.

(WindKun) #277
