i was in a situation where i was a medic Phoenix, and 3 team mates around me got killed 1x skyhammer 1x fragger 1x aura, i revived Aura she dropped med station i revive fragger she revived skyhammer we lost but made the winning teams job harder
Players tapping out
I usually tap out at this point because 9 times out of 10 I’ll get longspawned by the Sparks reviving me due to how long the gib window is.
Ah, that’s the dream tho, isn’t it!

They k out because they don’t want to get longspawned and wait for another 24 seconds.
If you kill them while jumping like a stupid human being spamming your grenade launcher and somehow getting the kill, this player, who clearly understands the underlying mechanics of this game, gets quite annoyed.
I haven’t ever seen anyone do this.
And why would a player want to tap out anyways? It’s really not worth it, considering you might make it to safety and get a medkit, die and get quickly revived, etc.
Try playing against actual good players instead of the bottom barrel pub crowd.
I only tap out if i think it’s not worth to be revive for my teammates medics, ie too dangerous for them or being used as a bait. I never tap out to prevent enemy to get finish xp.

I tap out almost instantly when a random Skyhammer who hasn’t given me ammo all day instantly tries to help me up in the middle of a firefight.
I usually tap out in pubs when I think it’s too dangerous for a medic to revive me. I actually encountered scenarios where people would willingly let someone down without gibbing him just to try to trap the medic. Tapping out when you see someone setting up something like that is a good idea IMO.
And I also tap out to annoy low levels rushing to my body just to get gib points, because I like it.
I am not sorry.
Smart player knows when to tap out.
I, like @Eox , also like to troll players rushing a long distance just to gib me. It often actually helps the team. And is funny.
people like you are why i dont finish anyone anymore unless i mowed down a bunch of them with Stickies or a minigun or otherwise. People like me are why Phoenix’s third ability is relevant again
Guys! This is why we need a “confused” or “WTF” button!
But anyway, I personally have gone some matches where I would intentionally choose Nader, wait for them to try to gib me, and then ‘k’ out because I thought it was funny to NOT explode on them. By the end of one match, I once had 4 people quite literally RACING to stab me since I had fooled them into thinking knifing nader was a game. I detonated and laughed!

On the other hand, I do sometimes tap out before someone can melee finish me. Mostly just as a troll, since the 40 XP of killing a squishy merc like the ones I main aren’t really that much. But I have to wait until they actually start to knife me so they still go through the animation x3
It’s funny
I really don’t care about people who tap out in front of me, it’s not going to affect my level speed by more than a percent, and it saves me a half second
There are many valid reasons to tap out. Most of these are more related to pub matches, as there is less mic communication between players.
If you can’t communicate to your team effectively, then these are usually good reasons to tap out.
-
If there is a landmine on your body, and you know you are just bait for a medic or other player… just tap out (unless a sparks is going to revive you)
-
If a non-medic is trying to revive you, look around and cover them.
If you see that the player won’t be able to revive you in time due to an incoming enemy, tap out as it forces them to get back into the game. -
If someone should be defusing an obj rather than manually reviving you, just tap out… it could save the match by forcing them back to the obj.
I’m sure there are other reasons to do it, and often tapping out could be avoided if proper communication is applied, but then I remember all the games I’ve played where communication fails. PUB matches…
10/10 I tap out 100% of the time when I’m about to be finished by a knife or while being plinked with bullets. There’s literally no point in staying down if you’re being finished off by opps anyway might as well save your medic’s life by discouraging them from running into enemy fire just to res you (since you’ll be finished off when getting up anyway).
100% of the time I stay down until I see the knife on top of me or start getting plinked. I will deny finish xp all day and force players to run over to me or waste ammo on me just to get no reward for it… and I expect the same behavior from everyone else.
Thanks for the responses guys. There are some things I didnt even know about as to why besides trolling which some people admit to do. But its for the most part smarter to tap out. To me this thread was more about getting the exp I should of earned instead of tapping out before they die by a players hand.
I only K out in “nope” moments for example:
Greedy Proxy trying to get me?
-K Out.
Greedy Fletcher?
-K
Rhino?
-K.
All the enemy team charging me?
-Freaking K.
It doesn’t bother me personally but more so about questioning the decision.
I had 2 people do it on different servers. When I was about to charge in and kill them, they k out but when I actually kill them by lets say nader or fragger, they rage.
Anyone had this experience before?
its used a lot for a last minute fuck you or to reduct spawn time… well in pubs it doesnt but ranked i think it does??? havent played ranked since the first pre season

nah i do it when the new medi tries to pick me up in the middle of a firefight… i wait just before the aura can then dead… made one rage quit in a match
