Phantom *Confirmed* Getting EMP ability
It’s better than nothing.

But still not enough. I do think he should remain completely invisible, but unable to attack, unless refractive armor is off.
It’s really not though, because now Thunder loses his room clearing potential with the EMP. It’s such an amazing tool to cripple a defence right before your team pushes in and they now have no health station or turrets.

I’d much rather he get a dart/heartbeat type EMP, means he doesn’t have to be up his opponent’s ass to stop stuff from working (and still be in cloak, effectively running you a player down).

I just can’t see it being all that great - a lot of people will shut down a Phantom regardless if he gets close, and now Thunder looks worse off too.

holy shit I just realized this Phantom can’t trip mines while invisible if he gets EMP
hype

(XavienX) #23

Now they need to fix Vassili’s jumpshot nerf.

(Naonna) #24

… But can I actually move around as Phantom now without a skilled player seeing me as i crouch walk under the armor’s loud effect? - This will have to be seen.

On the bright side, proxy mines won’t directly counter phantom anymore.

no. people now can tell if there is phantom around and get spooked

(inscrutableShow) #26

Sooo… Lemme get this straight. Thunder ate Doritos and drank Mountain Dew in his Thundermom’s basement and gained 10 more pounds HP, and Phantom got the EMPower. Right?

(Cuck) #27

and he left his katana in Kira’s house.

(responsibleKangaroo) #28

I do not like this at all… It forces phantom to get on melee range in order to disable stuff. Also Thunder is useless now

(Cuck) #29

i wouldnt call a blind gorilla attack useless.
if he threw it at the right time, it can devastate a whole team

(SaulWolfden) #30

Honestly Thunder should have kept his EMP in addition to Phantom getting an EMP ability, they are handled completely differently, one has to be in range, the other can throw a grenade. It’s like saying Arty is a clone ability of Skyhammer with that logic of removing it imo. That way people couldn’t always be sure if it was a Phantom or Thunder that disabled their deployable if they notice.

1 thing I feel should be mentioned here is what exactly do you want Phantom to do? When you are giving him abilities, you have to think what he is gonna be used for.

You want a spotter in your team, why would you think this is the ability to give to Phantom? No matter what you give him Aimee and Vasilli will always do that job better.

You want area denial for your team, why play a merc that has to be close to medium range to be effective when you can achieve the same thing with a sniper from relative safety, or an assault who is actually meant to be up in the enemies grill?

Phantom is never gonna be either of these things without making him incredibly broken. His role has to be different. He has good assassin potential when he can get into position, the problem right now is he has a real hard time getting to that position. This change severely lowers the numerous ways there are to counter him, and as an added bonus brings some much needed utility to his kit.

The disable of scanners, proxy mines, turrets, sticky bombs, health stations in a respectable 10m bubble around him I can’t see as being anything to sneeze at. Hell just standing the other side of a wall will cause a lot of problems for the enemy in maps like bridge and underground.

Sure maybe extra stats need a buff, but that can be tackled later. You can’t change too much in 1 go when balancing a game, otherwise you can never measure the effect your changes have and refine the issue in subsequent updates.

you got a point there man.
i completely agree with your view on stuff.
didnt think of an area denial like that before.

maan youre very insightful

I really think that Phantom should become a straight up recon instead of having to be flavored as an assassin all the time. He should grow up and learn that basically everyone in DB is an assassin already, and that kind of **** doesn’t work on them.

Learn to work in a team, Phantom, or nobody would like you.

I don’t think he cares if they like him, as long as they pay him.

(Naonna) #35

Is the EMP an area of effect or a line-of-sight disable similar to the Snitch device?

(Your worst knifemare.) #36

Phantom, one of the few mercs i can say im good with is getting a buff.

Have fun everybody

(Cuck) #37

i cant confirm or deny that.
(seriously dont know about it.)

(Dysfnal) #38

@Naonna so far as I know its just an AOE, as EMPs can travel through walls

Correct me if I’m wrong
