petition to add 2 buttons for buff and action
This comment pretty accurately describes my experience. It’s so frustrating when it feels like you have to ask for permission before attempting each action. The fact that it takes so bloomin’ long just adds insult to injury.

Taking autonomy away from the player is a theme that seems to run through Brink. Whether it’s the ‘one-button-performs-all-actions’ key or the SMART system. (ET: Dragon’s Lair perhaps )
I think the problem here is that the system wants you to be able to “comprehensively” see the whole body of your target. I often experience this when my target is downed on some slope or some corner or is very near some world geometry. My half-assed remedy? Try to find a better angle. Man, do I look silly running back and forth/sideways to my target just to find the “reach” point.

I had not voted in this poll until now. Tbh I thought this was another troll rage whine thread - until I tried playing as a medic. It left me howling in frustration at the game making me auto buff the wrong people with match winning decisions going begging. All the other classes have been superb with the f key.

Now I hate that sodding f key with a passion. Dragging me to command posts, buffing wrong players, infuriating!

Hmmm…based on alot of “f for buff”-related issues I have read. I think the only one with the buffing problem are the medics. SD, THROWABLE HEALTH BUFFS!

I’ve got a sneaky suspicion as to who the ‘No’ voters were, but I’d like to hear their reason for voting no.

(Smoochy) #45

there are always people who dont understand the word ‘option’. they seem to think a new option would hamper them.

(dazman76) #46

Psst DA… the number of voters for an option is a link, which will show the full results

Sad, but true. Especially when it’s something so trivial. It’s not like we’re asking for an optional IWIN button that instantly acquires all weapons and abilities, and optionally causes everything nasty to explode. Also, if their argument is somehow that this change imbalances things by making it better for those who want to multi-bind, they really need to re-consider the whole argument of “it isn’t broken” anyway  lol

Awesome, I never knew that!

Nice, shows how much attention I’ve been paying over the years

agreed. some people see it as ‘their way or the wrong way’, much like my ageing mother!

the more options the merrier as far as im concerned. if enough people want something, add it, unless it detracts from my experience.

tried playing a fat medic last night. man, so frustrating. i think the thing is that average players dont really care who they buff (a lot of them dont even buff). facing necheyev, last 2 pips. the idea was to revive necheyev then the medic next to him. so, i aim at necheyev, press F. he turns around and buffs a soldier behind me. i turn to face necheyez (at this point im on the slope up near the gate and under attack from 8 people) press F again, it turns around AGAIN to buff the same useless soldier who has been shot once as it like 90% health.

i have then used my pips and get killed. i guess medic is the worst as you need to inject them rather than just throwing an engi buff/ammo. so that means you get pulled towards them or spun around etc.

to me this is Brink’s biggest gripe (unless you have other issues like the ATI one etc), it just ruined the fun on that map as it feels like you are banging your head against a brick wall

Yep :frowning: This is my experience in a LOT of the games I played, and my class of choice is medic. I gave up playing due to frustration, and the keyboard-shaped bruises on my forehead. It’s so broken, I still keep asking myself how it got through QA. I’d like to be playing and enjoying Brink right now, but to be honest even Minesweeper is more appealing

(Smoochy) #52

on light/medium the issue doesnt seem so bad. i guess heavies are just that bit slower it seems worse. in the end we didnt manage to win by like 10 seconds. so, if it had worked we would have won. annoying.

re QA:

the problem is that QA testers dont play the games like proper gamers do. this is why an open beta was needed. QA testers are useless for the vast majority of games.

I’d love to at least see them become separate for the PC, but I’ll assume it has something to do with the console ports since it’s such a logical answer to a very blindingly obvious issue.

(Smoochy) #54

agreed. as much as i think consoles have a place in gaming its frustrating to see everyone being held back by 6 year old machines. fair enough consoles have limits but why screw the PC guys over?
