On Distinguishing Enemy From Friendly: Poll

Arent all your enemies greenbright keel anyway in qlive

I dunno how obvious it will be, but isn’t there going to be a vast difference between the two factions? Colour wise as well as the quality of the clothing? But I suppose that’ll be an issue over distance.
Arent all your enemies greenbright keel anyway in qlive :D
True. Nevertheless it happens quite often that you shoot at someone you don’t see (on jump pads for example). The indicators definitely help with that!

“Right now in game, we do friendly HUD indicators, and enemy indicators, but the enemy indicators only appear when you’re directly aiming at them, and you have line-of-sight to them (not when they just happen to be within the bounds of the screen. So far in our playtests there hasn’t any problem with positions being unfairly revealed, since if you aren’t already trying to shoot at them, they have no HUD indicator at all, so you still have to keep an eye peeled.”

Came across this on H0RSE’s info compendium.

Edit:
Also, this:-

“The enemy indicator is basically just the class icon, so if all else fails, you can still tell where the engineer is in the mob who’s trying to repair the core objective.”

“Player names and health bars are displayed above their heads; Green bars for friendlies and red for enemies. For friendlies, the names/health bars were visible even if the player wasn’t, acting like a marker so you know where they are.”

I just got done watching a lot of the game’s videos and came to this forum specifically looking for how the game displayed friend’s versus foes. I seem to have a hard time doing that in a lot of shooters where it is just too subtle. That moment’s hesitation get’s me killed and it isn’t fun.

I understand that if you are going to do a GUI marker or something instead of bright red and blue coloring on the outfits, that you don’t want to blatantly point out enemies that I might not see. “Boy, I’m sure glad that guy has a giant red arrow pointing him out hiding in that dark corner!”

I am defiantly in the camp that says, just blatantly point out my own guys. I know some people vehemently want that done in different ways, and I say have several GUI options for that. Let me have 3 choices of how my own guys are identified for me such as glow, arrow, or name where I can turn them each on or off.

Can’t wait, game looks great. Love the environment graphics. Hope it turns out awesome when it’s released.

I’ve had so many embarrassing situations while flying in my Anansi because the green arrows were turned off on a server. Collateral murder would pale to it.

(coolstory) #27

I like the enemies having a red glow, if you guys decide to do arrows have it on friendlies only.

(Slade05) #28

I don`t really care as THE MOST TEAMKILLS is the best possible medal anyway.
I just want to customize.
Everything.

(SockDog) #29

including the MOST TEAMKILLS medal?

No identifiers for enemies, if they are hiding in a dark place you shouldn’t see a red glow or red arrow or soemthing over their head just becasue your crosshair passes over them.

Markers for friendlies. Important when FF is on so you don’t launch a nade into a room full of your team mates.

If healthbars are to be shown, make it so they only pop up if you are reasonably close and after you’ve done some reasonable amount of damage.
