I did consider that point in the post though. Each map costs resources, you would have to chose between DM maps and objective maps. I personally find objective maps far more preferable, no matter how many there already exist.
No Team Deathmatch??
you can play DM all you want, but your team will be relagated to playing the same level forever, only by winning the match will you move on (in campaign).
This isn’t really accurate, since it has been stated more than once, that the Campaign is like a book - you can jump to any chapter you like at any time. You could even play the campaign backwards if you wanted to.
If I wanted to play deathmatch yes.
Some people want to play deathmatch plain and simple, deal with it, like wise Brink wont have deathmatch so they have to deal with that also.
Anyway it wont be exactly hard to set up ‘team deathmatch’ servers if people wanted where everyone agrees to not to finish the map and wait till time limit is over, there are a few servers that do this in ET
No, it isn’t. Last I heard, you can play any chapter of the story at any time, right from the beginning, on your first play-through. You could play chapter/level 2, then play 5, then play 3, then play 4 if you wanted.
Lemonade out of lemons. You can’t be too restrictive about what servers people can join or they’ll have long waits, empty games and similar.
If you want to play DM go play one of the many DM games from Quake to COD they already have them.
If you have ever played any Splash Damage games, you’ll find that its all about teamplay, and objectives. Real objectives, not taking points ect…
All of this means they have an assload of work put into making it work and the last thing they or many SD fans want is a bunch of people levelling in DM instead of the original idea of Brink.
Which by the way is not a new idea, as Enemy Territory was the original idea and all these years later we get Brink. The idea hopefully at its finest to date.
Theres nothing wrong with more game modes, actually its better, i agree that the game wasnt made for that, but a lot of people just have fun with frags and stuff, about the leveling up with TDM its simple, if u kill someone u get like 10 points if u heal somone u have 100 points, so theres ways around it.
I personally am all about choices, possibility to choose game mode, respaw time or not, bots or not, voice coms or not etc.
That’s why there are no (or very seldom) innovations in big titles nowadays.
When the developers say we want to try and do something different, people come and say this is nice, but give us the old generic things instead.
Making a team deathmatch mode is usually one of the easiest things to add to a game. But that is to just add the mechanics, keeping score and perhaps changing re-spawn timers and things like that. But that’s far from a good team deathmatch mode. That require new maps, and planning for that mode and since I don’t think SD wants to release a mode that is just tacked on and unsupported, I don’t think we’ll see it in Brink.
it all comes down to release.
IF ppl get bored with the regular mode, but like the game (-mechanics) they’ll simply create different modes / mods. it is inevitable and i love this as an organic aspect of strong communities.
however i don’t see that ported 1to1 on the regular maps, because those were not created for TDM or what not, who knows what’ll happen. maybe something we haven’t seen so far. looking forward to it…
I can see the SMART system working in a CTF environment, I don’t see a need for a mod, just different maps and a counter. The mode is already there, once mapping tools are available CTF should be possible. On small maps, defend the runner can be much fun
I love objectivestyle but it seems like such a waste of awesome resourses to not have fun
with other (simpler) gamemodes, maybe even some new/unique ones.
I for one would be happy with it.
I would even buy a standalone “Brink Arena” if this were to happen
Personally I hate DM but any teamgame would be most welcome.
Other gamemodes will be a waste of resources because they would require entirely different maps in order to be fun.
It’s only a waste of resources if it isn’t popular. It’s also not possible to really judge how much work would be required, for example you may create one map for CTF that plays equally well for DM, TDM, Jailbreak or any other number of gametypes. You also wouldn’t necessarily need to create new assets, existing maps might be able to be reworked.
For me, I’d like to see a mirrored map CTF mode with and without classes.
A vertical CTF/Stopwatch type mode.
And throw in some classics like DM, TDM, Jailbreak, Freezetag and Defrag.
BTW - Know this isn’t going to happen but it doesn’t hurt to express interest in it.
Actually, adding it as a game mode means you can also filter out those retarded servers where you can’t complete any objective without receiving a lecture on “TD only servar!!!111!!!” and being insta-banned.

I’m glad it doesn’t happen. I have the feeling that people want COD with SMART. I really hope Activision steals the SMART system so these people can sod the hell off.
