Nexon, Beta and everything else

(.FROST.) #21

Phew! so XT is not going to be an interactive commercial; glad to hear that:)

PS: I know, that they don’t design stuff themselfs, but I thought, they could’ve asked SD to do so, so that they(Nexon) could sneak them pop-ups in, every once in a while.

(Ruben0s) #22

But it has control over the virtual shop right? Can they decide the prices?

(badman) #23

Allow me to quote Min’s post from a few weeks back:

Also, please allow me to further reassure you by stating that Nexon America is not the developer. Extraction’s design decisions on both gameplay and monetization will ultimately be made by talented and devoted team over at Splash Damage.

(Emphasis mine.)

(Kl3ppy) #24

Who is the talented monetization team?

(Violator) #25

I signed up to Nexon but don’t see any option to set a nick (just change your email or sign up for newsletter + the ‘buy buy buy’ menu options). I’m guessing mine will be taken - it usually is

(.FROST.) #26

That’s exactly why I started this thread; because I couldn’t set a nick. Guess you can only do that when you choose a specific game on the Nexon page.

SD, develop our verion as well PLEEEEAAZE!!! =)
srsly :\

(OwNLY) #29

Ahaha, so you mean to tell me that the publisher of a game has no word in some issues about the game?
I am no expert in these kind of contracs, but if there is not enough money for them when publishing XT, why do it in the first place?
Of course SD will “make” the game, but Nexon will have some rights here and there.

And yes, Nexon has a really bad name when it comes to monetization.

I believe that i have posted one of these as a BAD EXAMPLE in one of my crosshair-posts:
http://combatarms.wikia.com/wiki/Custom_Reticle_Type_1
http://combatarms.wikia.com/wiki/Custom_Reticle_Type_2
http://combatarms.wikia.com/wiki/Custom_Reticle_Type_3
http://combatarms.wikia.com/wiki/Custom_Reticle_Type_4

You can buy fukken crosshairs from them. A damn ripoff!

This company is one of the worst faces you can show towards a customer.

But maybe the only ones who wanted to give money to develop XT.

I will spend NO money on XT if i know some parts of it is going towards Nexon.

I don´t care if Nexon is responsible for the Combat Arms money system,
but this is definitely wrong and even providing such services should not be rewarded in any way.

#votingwithmywallet
I voted for SD a few months ago because it looked like they were going to do something good.
Now i am not so sure anymore…

(Ruben0s) #30

Same here. Just looking at their website tells me that I’m not going to spend a dime because I know they will get a some %, their websites screams that it’s all about the money.

(FireWater) #31

I have played combat arms before and I played for a top 5 ctf team and I never monitized. However I did play long enough to keep the weapon leases active on my account.

That being said, most people did not like weapon leasing and I can understand why, because it punishes you for not playing the game regularly.

I don’t believe that SD will do weapon leasing so I think that will be good and they have to make money somehow. I am hoping that they will have a fair moneitization practice that will leave most consumers satisfied with their purchase and not have to purchase out of necessity

(OwNLY) #32

Yes, that is what this game is all about. If you dont play a few hours a day, you have to pay for it.
Or:
You have to play in order to be able to keep playing.
You don´t play because it´s fun.

I don´t know what is wrong with the modern FPS scene?
Can´t they make good games anymore so that they don´t need this longer playtime through unlock-mechanics.

That is called Skinner Box, they condition you to play the game, like pavlov´s dogs.

(FireWater) #33

Well thats how F2P games make their money, they have to provide some incentive to purchase. However, disempowering the player in the beginning would not assist with that. Empowering the player, than gradually removing that power to incentivize monetization is the key.

I am well aware of the skinner box, I have 3 degrees in psychology

Oh also, Nexon will be taking a large cut of whatever revenue comes in, thats a standard Publisher/Developer deal. After all, to monetize, you will have to purchase Nexon Cash or whatever it is called.

Just a heads up btw.

(OwNLY) #34

I know there might be a “good” way to monetize a f2p-FPS-Game, but i haven´t seen one yet.
I have just seen A LOT of bad ways, which makes me somewhat pessimistic. Learning from experience.
LoL seems to work pretty nice, but it´s a MOBA and is a bit different than a FPS game.

btw. it would be nice to know your background before we start discussions,
so i can adjust to the knowledge i am communicating with
Now i know my polemic involving burning some strawmans, cherry picking, or going ad hominem won´t work…
Still no argument from authority, pics or it didn´t happen

(FireWater) #35

Fair enough.

I’m not sure what the solution is monetize a F2P FPS. LoL works out, but people still complain about it. I guess the question the publishers have to ask themselves “are customers complaining and spending, or are they complaining and not spending (overall)”. A lot of gamers bitch about things but will pay anyway, which only increases the companies behavior that may not be desired as they are getting reinforced by $$$.

(Dthy) #36

LoL way could work, assuming enough of each ‘class’ are available. (e.g. one of each ‘class’ is free for a week, then a new set the next week and so forth)

(FireWater) #37

Yeah that requires classes to be released regularly, balanced etc… not impossible, and that could be a fair method. Especially with toon skins and weapon skins.

(MoneyPenny) #38

Hi guys~

I’m going to preface this by saying that I’m not going to answer all the individual questions. I just have too much on my plate right now (including trying to jump in for a game).

To address your concerns, Nexon America is a publisher of online games. It basically means that we do everything other than making the game, so that the developer can focus on making the game. Without diving into each concern, I would say that you should trust the fact that both Nexon America and Splash Damage respect and value you guys as players of Extraction. Sure, we have to run a business, but losing customers is probably the quickest way to go out of business. Over monetizing and imbalance will lead to losing players. That is the last thing we want to do. We want Extraction to be the biggest game out there.

I’ve been playing shooters since I was a teen, and working together with Splash Damage on Extraction is really a dream come true for me. As with all live games, we’re sure to hit some bumps, but we’ll do our best to do right by the game and you.

Quick fun story…

I just landed at LAX this morning coming back from Asia. I go through customs. The guy asks “Do you work in fashion?” (probably because fashion guys carry in samples). I say “No. I work in video games.” He slams the stamp and says “Go play”. Fastest customs experience of my life =)

Cheers,
MoneyPenny

(OwNLY) #39

Thanks for your post adressing our concerns.

But I really don´t have insight in what you are planning,
that means i have assume what is going to happen, based on my past experience.

If i currently visit the Nexon website for FPS games, payment options get slammed in my face.
Often involving the old pay-to-win pattern, you pay money and can get advantages over other players for your payment.

A lot of concerns in the alpha community happen to develop from very limited information flow from SD and NX to the community.

Please increase the information flow to the community!

(acutepuppy) #40

We’ll have more information when we can access the system a day early, I’d say that’s pretty nice.

What they have for that day is in place, they need our feedback of our experience.

I want information just as bad, but I don’t want to forums aflame with speculation :]
