I didn’t mean for it to seem uncharitable. That, infact was not my point. I went to a LAN party on the weekend where we only played custom maps and most of the other players did not recieve them well since the framerates of may where low for them. I enjoyed playing the custom maps and I cant wait for Venice and Battle of the Bulge to appear.

I also indicated that I am not a mapper. My last attempts where back with the Half-life engine and it all sucked. My compliments go out to everybody who creates a map, especially the highly detailed maps like Venice as this helps to add a sence of realism to the game and is not just a “run around some dumb looking blocks” game that reminds me of playing games on an old Atari console machine back in the eighties.

I think the problem here is, as (I think) Davegod pointed out in the mapping competition thread, that many mappers don’t appear to play competitively.

So we have two different sides to what kind of maps are wanted.

Clan players want a tight, bug free, well-thought out map.
Mappers and public players generally are much less fussier, simply preferring something large and new.

My own point of view is I’d rather generally come at it from a clan-player’s point of view (which I am) - keep it with high FPS etc.
If you look in the transmitter thread, I’ve had a few people bash my map cos they don’t like playing on it which is finer, but no-one has argued that it doesn’t look or run great. I just wish, if people realise that I can do a fast nice looking map, and they can do a decent gameplay map, why not do both?

Mappers seem to like doing what they like doing, and pretty much to hell with what other people think (and fair play to us - it’s OUR time and effort!). Hopefully the mapping competition though will make mappers come a little closer generally to what clan players want, because it’s these people who pretty much dictate the lifespan of a game.

Is it any coincidence that after all the time RTCW is out, there’s only maybe 2 or 3 custom maps that have ever got serious consideration? I dread to think how many custom maps there actually are for it…

Or to put it another way, the ET clanbase ladder has one ‘custom’ map as ‘official’, and that’s the bloody base rip-off :confused:

Ok we have given time to maps grow and there has been new maps that are awesome. So I think I should do this map pack before we have so much maps that some are going to be left out. We can start new thread with the new map pack if we want.

So I would say that the map pack should have 6 maps. We could wait infinite for maps to mature, so my suggestion is that when we have 6 final stage maps we create a map pack with campains:

-drakir’s Rhineland bridge : Final
-resurrection : Final
-ML_church : Final

Does everyone have some negative to say about these maps? Or how would the campains form?
