"new merc with new primary or secondary every 6 and a half to 7 weeks for the rest of the year"

The only “niche” I can see needing to be filled in the Medic category is a ranged healer of sorts. Whether a gun or healing grenade or even just a particularly long ranged deployable, I’d like to see a ranged healer (though balance would be questionable).

You can make up as many crazy abilities as you want for Assault mercs. Engineers… not so much. Same goes for Recon.

I disagree, I think something like what Javelin has, but for heals would work. Or a medic who buffs your health temporarily.

Recon…idk, maybe a shotgun recon Merc? Some thing close range with spotting potential.

Assault, tbh I feel like Javelin should have been one. The ammo belt thing isn’t even that great.

(Szakalot) #22

damn, do people find things to complain about.

‘not enough mercs, whine whine whine!’

‘too many mercs, whine whine whine!’.

Killing Floor’s Medic grenade that creates a short-duration area that regens friendlies and damages enemies.

(watsyurdeal) #24

Considering how powerful Sparks still is I say no to revive grenades.

A Merc who buffs health allows a team full of light Merc to get a boost to their health. Really good strat if you’re worried about getting into position as quickly as possible

(BloodySin) #25

Never said anything about reviving, just regeneration. Or “HoT” as millennials call it.

(TheStrangerous) #26

Good question is: After 25 mercs, will it be complete or will the go further beyond? Assuming each groups will contain 5 mercs equally.

I feel 25 should be enough fitting playstyles, borrowed from countless FPS tropes. Who knows?

#27

I’d rather see them prioritize new maps, balancing, changing the crafting system, and event content before spitting out a ton of new mercs. But, hey, if they can do so without hurting the balance and flow of the game too much, why not?

(Shenaynays) #28

More thinks for people to scream “YOU’RE A NOOB” for, i love it.

Eight weeks sound like a good balance to me.

(TitaniumRapture) #30

And they will need to balance it after releasing all these mercs again.

Balance is a never ending battle, with or without new mercs. The trick is keeping the complaints down to a minimum

Different crowds complain about different things. DB isn’t all one person after all.
Look at some of the points people have raised, these complaints exist for a reason.

no they don’t. Its all purely based on speculation. I don’t see how we can judge unreleased, undiscussed mercs at all.

Game is accelerating in development, with +triple the size in team over the course of a few months. There is no reason to assume the new additions will be disruptive in whatever way. New mercs, new maps, new weapons; whats not to like?

If Splash Damage really needs the cash, instead of new mercs, how about new merch. Like voicepacks. Gordon Ramsay as Fragger? Yes.

I would actually pay a ton of money for that. Throw a nade into someone’s mouth “IT’S FOCKIN RAAAAWWWWW!”

Exactly. Screw new mercs, make the existing ones better. Improve the balance between mercs and make sure each merc has a role that it fulfills efficiently and effectively. Each role has already been fulfilled, and we already have too many mercs.

How long does it take to make a merc? I bet they could put out like a dozen voice packs in the same time.

Gordon Ramsay: “Pineapples get me so excited, that robust flavour; just chill and serve. Perfection!” Last thing you hear before you and your buddy get fragged.

Terry Crews: “UNLLIMMIITTTEEDDDD PPOOWWWWWWWEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRR!”

Jason Statham: “You thirsty? I’m thirsty. Cleaning up is hard work.” in his perfect voice.

I’m a little bit sad nobody googled the people I listed.

Also, a flamethrower merc would be the worst. Last thing the game needs is a more mobile Rhino. May as well just roll Winston in Overwatch.

That’s 3 mercs, and 3 new weapons at least.
Now, I love that they’re adding more content, new mercs are great too, but aren’t mercs better as something that’s giving more time between release?

I mean, it takes time for players to actually get used to the merc, how to counter them, how to play with them, etc. And until players are actually familiar with the merc, they can’t really be balanced, because any balance info is likely skewed by inexperience.

Other games manage to do it. There is Heroes of the Storm which comes to mind, they release a new Hero EVERY month, its pretty crazy… sometimes I haven’t played in a while and I jump back in and am like… “who are these 3 people?”. It is a bit of a learning curve to deal with them but if you enjoy the game enough and play often you do get used to it.

While Heroes of the Storm is a different kind of game, it still does have a lot of different aspects and things to think about when it comes to balance… Sometimes characters are OP at launch (usually the case) but they soon get patched down to a more tolerable level.

The same should be true for DB, I just hope that they are able to keep the Mercs and their abilities unique and interesting enough given their release schedule… While Heroes of the Storm has about 66 or so Heroes at the moment, they (Blizzard) pull all of their heroes for that game and their abilities from their other game series such as Diablo, Warcraft and Starcraft, and The Lost Vikings.

(Guziol) #36

I’m absolutely fine with it as long as they deliver on their promise on not adding mercs just for the sake of adding mercs and make every decision meaningfull. At the same time i hope older mercs and other content does not get neglected but so far i trust the devs. Pls buff skyhammer.

Until we have jango fett (INCLUDING JUMP JETS) the merc list shall never be complete.

Look at how the devs responded to the “javelin is OP” threads. “Give her time for the dust to settle”. And yet they’re trying to release mercs even faster? I mean, sure you can balance a merc in that time, but it might not really be enough for that “dust to settle”, before you just add a new merc and change everything again.

Besides, we’re not judging the mercs. It’s just an observation that 6 weeks seems pretty fast for a game with all its major roles already filled.

(Szakalot) #39

its not about roles filled. you only need one role in the game: a character that shoots. surely a game with one character only would be a boring teamdeathmatch. More characters: more depth in the game, more variety to choose from and more potential for cool emergent gameplay.

Im sure devs know Javelin will need a nerf, bit perhaps they want a few weeks for the opinion to crystallize about her, and whatever data they have to become statistically significant to only have to nerf her once. Just like turtle who was nerfed after launch and is in a really good spot now. No idea how you think he is ‘underwhelming’

But they probably cant say ‘yeah we know she needs a nerf but we will wait’ cause all the 12year old crackheads would cry bloody murder.
