BUt let me tell you i am insulted by you saying “keep practicing.” This is not the extent of my capabilities, and it seems everyone in the ET community has never played any other FPS before.

You shouldn’t have to go to other games to play DM matches. ET is an objective based game, but why be closed-minded? I see nothing wrong with fun deathmatches.

Ever play attack_beta? “sleeper” hit so to speak–and no objective in sight.

I never was stating that I needed no practice, or that you meant to insult me. It’s just everyone seems to interpret this as my all. And maybe all maps should be given your best, but this is…ah screw it I won’t explain.

I didnt knock your map just saying, it’s kinda silly to have a pure DM map when ET offer so much more.

I can only speak to myself, and sure I’ve played other FPS before, I just found them boring. I think just about everyone has played CS, but it doesn’t mean I liked it or played it for more than an hour. I never liked Quake3 either.

Hell, I even downloaded the demo to RTCW thinking that “if it’s anything like ET I’ll love it” but nope, it’s like ET’s evil twin. The game is there, the sounds and objectives and the name is there, it gives you the signals of a good game, but it’s just awful.

So it’s not that we don’t play other FPS, but they just can’t compare to the greatness that is ET

I would say though if SO strives for realism, this map aint it - that much is quite clear from the discussion so far.

I did note that “I can only speak for myself” in the first line, meaning I was only speaking for myself. I said “I downloaded the demo” not “we”. Only time I said “we” was in the last line where talking about how good ET is, but if you don’t think that then fair enough. So no, I will not ‘tread softly’ - ppl should learn that there are opinions other than their own!

Nostalgia is not really the point - of course anyone who plays RTCW will have done so before ET, it was out yonks ago!

I think you need to stress that was in your opinion

RTCW is better in many ways than ET IMO
For one thing, the maps are (mostly) better balanced.
Secondly the XP thing (certainly on publics) in ET ruins it - particularly since the emphasis is on campaigns, and these are getting bigger all the time (ever tried joining a 10 map campaing 7 maps in? Ownage!).
It doesn’t run like a dog except on recent hardware

I assume you don’t like RTCW going from ET 'cos you got owned? Shooting in RTCW is MUCH more about accuracy - this is my single biggest gripe in ET - accuracy should not be down to XP, however gained.

Some of the better admins have started setting it up so you join with level 3 light weapons (or whatever it is) to give you the reduced spread - because it’s simply unfair and unbalanced otherwise.

Also, teamplay is much more encouraged in RTCW than ET - ammo / health cabinets combined with any ‘reasonable’ XP level medic / field op able to dish out stupid amounts of ammo and health and then simply bugger off.

Anyway, I am the lucky one - I enjoy both so get the best of both worlds

Hehe That wasn’t the main reason but, yes I got owned pretty bad. Even by my own team :eek2: I played on Beach as Allies, and kept getting shot in the back when hiding behind the stone things, by the time I made it to Axis base I had no energy left. This didn’t help my enjoyment at all, perhaps I would have enjoyed the game more had I not been playing on the Demo servers. But anyways, I got owned in ET for the first few weeks but still had a great time right from the start

Well maybe if I bought the game and got into it (or if it was free!), I would have played more and noticed the good points you mentioned, but I really hated the demo and won’t be spending money on it.

Why don’t you give it another try? Even if it was only to see Splash Damage’s previous work, being an ET fan and all. There are hundreds of custom maps and SD made some good maps for RTCW too which are almost as large as the ET ones and also have moveable stuff in it, so those might be more enjoyable for you.
Also, most people who play the demo are probably people who have been playing it for 2 years now. Some actually have the full version but since they don’t play other maps they’ll just play the demo :blah:
Even if you don’t like the mp there’s always the single player in RTCW (panzers don’t take time to charge, much like ET )
imo RTCW and ET are both awesome games.

That’s exactly why I do it–I do it for me. Theta Is just a joke for fun. I’m not REALLY going to use it. I completely understand everything you say. I was just using it for panzer.

And anyway, have you even SEEN the single maps section of SO? What do you call Sky High Radar? How is that realistic in any way?

I know you may not like CS. Hell, I downloaded it and hated it, then replayed it and loved it. I ONLY play small levels. Small levels are great, people are really creative.

I played this one small level where you can choose three helicopters to man while shooting other people. If you have 6v6 or so, one can be piloting while the rest attacked. it was really fun when you crashed into each other and boarded the other team

Why are people who like CS so much playing a map made for CS players in ET?!
