Ok, I’ve read a bit of all the posts, and I just want to make a suggestion. Yeah, the plane crash in the jungle would be awsome <3
But why not make it like, the survivors “Allies” have crashed on a small jungle land. They must attack the local people “Axis” in order to either (2 Ideas) get the necessary equipment to fix the plane, or to get food and shelter items to take over the island. It would be awsome to see a plane flying at the end movie though

Just a suggestion<3

New map based on LOST (TV series)
I suppose hatch door doesn’t count. And what about that poor dumb science teacher? BOOM!
I’m wondering why are you so reluctant to make your own hatch design and make some sort of extension to the story we seen so far? I think this would be a much better prospect than simply reconstructing the hatch from the show inch for inch I can’t see this particular hatch making for a good ET map or any of the island based ones for that matter, possibly the looking glass one would be nice but yeah a totally new one would be rather good to see.
Very well, I determined another mission. It involves the magnetic room which has not been uncovered in the series, as well as the Rambaldi device, which prominently featured in the Alias TV series (created by mostly the same guys). It’s now also purely military; the Hatch will still feature the computer dome and living room (with axis “decorations”), but the other rooms will be larger and more military. The Hatch appears to be build on a mine, so there will be some extra caves too.
Story: axis developed a secret super-weapon to take over the world, sealed in the ground on an off-the-map island. Allies gathered intelligence about the weapon and narrowed it’s location down to the south-pacific. A few submarines with specially trained troops were send to seek and destroy the device. One of them stranded on the island that appeared instantly out of nowhere.
ALLIES:
- when the troops are unloaded, make sure the captain can restore oxygen levels and leave as soon as possible for a fully covert trip through the heavily guarded waters back to base and report the location of the island just in case you might fail.
[this will take 15 minutes]
OR:
- let an engineer crack the Swan station vault and secure the failsafe key
- trigger the failsafe located in the basement to release the magnetic buildup, so the Rambaldi device can be approached without dieing a horrible death
- blow the wall to the magnetic room
- blow the Rambaldi device located in the magnetic room
OR:
- prevent the axis from entering the code to trigger it’s self-destruct sequence
[this can only be done in a fixed 4 minute timespan near the end of the round]
AXIS:
- drive the VW van loaded with explosives to the submarine, before they can restore oxygen levels and leave to report the location of the facility
[needs to be completed in the first 15 minutes]
- input the secret code in the terminal every 108 minutes, to acknowledge the Rambaldi device didn’t get in the wrong hands and prevent it’s self-destruction sequence
[needs to be completed between 20 and 24 minutes into the game]
- prevent the allies from obtaining the failsafe key
- don’t let the allies trigger the failsafe and delay our global attack
- prevent the allies from destroying the seal on the magnetic room
- prevent the allies from destroying the Rambaldi device
max mission time: 30 minutes
allies win/axis lose when the rambaldi device is blown or self-destructs, or the submarine leaves intact
allies and axis both have to defend as well as attack, just the way I like it
Both allies and axis spawn from a fair distance from the hatch to prevent camping as much as possible. There is a spawn flag in the computer dome that can be captured by both teams.
map name: Down the Hatch
you have a nice objective idea with the inputting code idea but i think your using it pretty badly. First for a lot of players remembering a code and inputting it could be quite annoying, changing it to simply using the computer every 2 mins or so would be enough. Secondly trying to tun this objective at the same time as attacking another objective is going be annoying trying to organize a pub server with who is attacking and who is defending, maby for a clan match but pub matches i just cant see it
a different use for the computer might be that the allies need to open a door inside the axis base. To keep the door sealed the axis must use the computer every 1 minute to keep the door sealed. To open the door the allies must capture the computer room and stop the axis using the computer until the doors open
Yes the code was going to be scripted as 1 button (that needs to be pressed once in the game); also forgot to mention the blastdoors can be opened and closed by connecting the wires in one of the computer cases (also scripted as a button). One will remain half-open. This can delay the axis’s attack on the computer (an in-and-out operation) as well as the allies’ attempts to secure the dome (which is needed to trigger the failsafe, which in turn is needed before the seal can be opened).
For now I believe the objective is acceptable for pubservers, because the code pressing and van escort are separated by 5 fixed minutes, so the attention is on the obj at hand.
The axis escort the van around the entrances, so they can stop most allies from there, and they get radio warnings when the allies are inside or when the van is not progressing fast enough. It should be common that the van reaches it’s target in 15 minutes, since it’s meant as a delay for the allies and to prevent axis from camping as much as possible.
The allies have all the time to focus on the van (which progress will also be reported on the radio), it’s more likely that the attack/defense is switched in the middle of the game rather than executed in parallel.
I can run tests on a crowded pubserver, so it should become clear soon enough whether it works as I imagine. If needed I can easily delay one of the teams with extra obstacles (or remove some of them).
We have a sourceforge page now, at https://sourceforge.net/projects/ap-maps
Feel free to add/remove/change stuff, or add your own open source map/mapping tools/website.
I’ve also made a small java program to generate geometric shapes (of any kind) in .map format, I will post it with screenshots on SF soon. This was necessary because making well-aligned shapes at non-45 degree angles (such as the computer dome) is next to impossible in Radiant. And if it was, it would be very hard to make even the slightest change to the structure later on.
Of course there are other tools but I couldn’t find a reasonably intuitive one in time.
once you know all the tools in radiant making a 20 degree angle is easy, or whatever angle you like.
Yeah and no, a simple angled corridor at 20 degrees would be relatively simple but something like what he wants to build would take some time and effort to get perfect.
