I had an awesome smiley face aswell but it got changed to the dirty bomb logo so i switched to nader. Would love to have my smiley face back D:
I can understand why there are no avatars as of yet. Thats just unessecary traffic as players come and go really quick with the closed beta and all. But i’d love to see this feature in the future with a growing playerbase though.

I think you missed the key the point of an avatar, it’s not out of a personal whim, but rather so that whilst reading a post the author is extremely quickly identifiable without the need to physically take focus off what is being read, shift it to the username, read it, try to find your place again, and continue reading, versus subliminally/peripherally being aware of the author at all times, this is orders of magnitude of difference in time, 0ms vs 300ms for example, and yes it does also help when users are able to use the avatar they are already established for using, rather than one that is completely random, so there is not an additional learning curve or memory requirement to cement both in ones mind.

I would really love to have the option to follow people on the forums so I can see when they post. The current lay out makes finding replies a pain really…

a second thing … the searchbox is far away from the rest of the forum in the right upper corner. its hard to find there.
