Need More Alpha Testers
Some of us are already welcoming new comers, replying to their questions, directing them to the right forums and trying to get them adopt the community so they come back to the game to help shape it all along the alpha process. So Anti post irked me to the maximum and felt more like a “yeah you guys make sure the servers are running each day for the random people who bought the demo, once there are more you can just do whatever you like”.
The drafts are the perfect occasion for any newcomers to join a team and get the complete run through given by experienced gamers (or not ^^). For example we had Malmen (if I remember right) in our team for the first cup, it was his first time in the game and we helped him on where to go, what to do, the strategies, etc. In the end we enjoyed having a new player and I’m sure that for him, it was a better introduction to DB rather than going alone on a “pub mess”.

(Ashog) #102

This is all irrelevant. I’m afraid I agree with Kendle.

Our current efforts with drafts are hardly helping DB in anyway - this is too early, as mentioned by devs many times.

But for me it is useful because it’s entertaining. Where else can one hear Potty raging about the game in his sekseh english accent?

(Volcano) #103

raging? all i hear is pottys ego ^.^:penguin:

(Ashog) #104

Everyone needs some love

(RasteRayzeR) #105

Still the guy deserves some credits, he is capable of gathering us to play great games and right now there is not really any other way to get a proper serie of match

(Ashog) #106

Of course, can’t give more credits - he is absolutely the driver of comp and casting now. Thanks a lot for that. Also glad he gets supported by Mustang, Seanza and others. We are too early with this but this lays a basement for the near future.

(RasteRayzeR) #107

And it will yield a great feedback to SD for the features of the spectator mode. I was amazed when I saw the feedback report of Potty for the features to include to spectator mode : it was clear and no one contested it on the forum. For me this is the the proof that these drafts are useful for SD and bring us quality games with fun

(Ashog) #108

Well, the spec feedback is now given, so that alone doesn’t justify drafts anymore

But fun does justify :stuck_out_tongue:

I know that DB is still in alpha. And I know that you should have different expectations from a game that still is in the alpha fase, but DB is like 21 months in production? I guess we won’t see drastic changes anymore, but I would love to see them.

For me Dirty Bomb lacks the innovation. I mean what we have right now in DB we also had in W:ET ( although db feels dumbed down). Even if DB would have been an exact copy of W:ET it wouldn’t be good enough for me, as I expect games to evolve after years.

I’m still waiting for the patches that bring up the “abilities”, but I’m more concerned about the maps and the movement. These are together with the shooting mechanics the core of the game for me, and I think that these two things are at this moment really bad, so that’s why this game is in my eyes mediocre.

And I’m concerned about how DB attracts casual gamers, as I think that they will think that DB is an odd game (most of them will not understand that iron sight is almost completely useless).

For sure right now DB is strange, it’s evolving. The maps are one concern SD is aware of (we made sure they do ^^), and I have to agree with you for the core mechanics and the fact that there is no real innovation. Still looking for this “SD trademark” in it, but they already have proven they can bring big surprises out of nowhere, I guess we will have to swallow up our pain and wait patiently

(BomBaKlaK) #111

Hope so ! Maps improvement is really needed !

(Rex) #112

We don’t need more players, we need more acutal testers.
Who are willing to spend time on the game to improve it and don’t quit playing with the first change in an alpha they don’t like.
Except for those of us who can’t play in these drafts, the public servers are empty. I’d love to play in these matches but I can’t commit a whole evening, I tend to get half an hour here and there and it’s very hit and miss at the moment if there are other people on besides those who are playing in these matches.

I respect Potty and the rest of you for what you’re doing, but I wonder how much it’s helping the Alpha right now?
It’s probably the only useful echo information SD has had.

I guess it’s probably the best for the game and for SD ( If I were SD I would only use the echo data from the draft games and throw all the echo data from pub games in the garbage). These draft games show actual useful information instead of the info from a pub game. I mean I never played a draft game, nor do I want to, but on the videos it shows that there is way more teamplay than what I have seen on public servers.

I say since this is basically a reskin/mod of Brink we give all the poor day 1 Brink purchases alpha/beta access as an apology for Brink’s day 1 abandonment. I bought Brink twice hoping to find a community on a different platform only to see it was as barren as my original purchase. I feel anyone who got burned by Brink will avoid this game come launch…they really should get old fans on board now and bolster the numbers for testing.

I got access from my lowest tier Alpha purchase the other day and I’ve only been able to play a 2vs2 or maybe a 3vs3 game ONCE in almost a week of access…hopefully once the Steam sale ends people will come back but it’s frustrating seeing 50+ people online but only 2 of them are actually in a server and I think they’re XP farming by completing objectives while no other players are opposing them.

(Ruben0s) #116

Imo this would be a great move, or some in game currency :stuck_out_tongue:

Enter the Brink CD key and you get a free download. But… it would never happen, at least not in alpha or closed beta :+)

(Hundopercent) #117

Let’s be honest here Kendle, we have written novels on what needs to be done in the games current state and the major issues with the map design. There is really nothing else for us to do and constantly pubbing, which I still do, just makes those glaring problems more and more prominent. We need more updates with changes for us to test or the pubs will continue to die out. I’m happy NA servers finally get players but the server empty’s out after a few maps. =/

(Kendle) #118

I’d do the opposite. Draft games are an anomaly that mostly won’t occur when the game goes live. Draft games are not proper clan matches, between organised teams with pre-determined strategies, so the ECHO data for them is not worth much as far as comp play is concerned, and being played 5-v-5 against 8-v-8 on pubs (a significant reduction in team size) it’s not worth much as far as public play is concerned either.

Again, not meaning to come across in any way dis-respectful or un-appreciative, just saying

Agreed.

tbh I’m not sure what I’m arguing for here. I’m not arguing against Draft games, just trying to inject a little reality in case we start thinking that Draft games are what DB is all about. The game needs to work on pubs, it just needs to, and if people are playing Drafts to avoid playing pub, SD are not getting the feedback on pub they should be getting.

(Hundopercent) #119
Agreed.

I disagree. I think we have given them feedback. Monumental amounts of it. We’re just not seeing anything (drastic) done about it.

(blacktyger) #120

That’s the point. DB can’t hold me for more than 2-3 maps, something is missing.
