Need a map makers take on this

But there is a further exception. An overlay file that hides Nazi symbols or other illegal content is not acceptable. Why? because the file with the original illegal content has to be downloaded and stored in the computer where it is illegal to have such content. And making somebody download illegal content without their knowledge (because its hidden) is seriously bad. In these cases the original file needs must be edited solely to replace the illegal content and given a slightly different pk3 name. But ask the original mapper first if you can.[/QUOTE]

That’s a good point. I guess no one really considers the fact that the content is still on the players’ computer whether they are actively looking at it or not. Well, if I was unwilling to make another release of my map to fix something like that, then I wouldn’t mind if someone altered the pk3 file to fix it. I think if any mapper wants to be an ass about it (some are really attached to the “realism” of their swastikas) then I would either not play their map, or change it anyway, and to hell with them.

Since I found out about the SS emblem being part of the ban, I’ve fixed that poster so it won’t show up in my re-release.

in this i think the opposite. those stuff in the pk3 are not illegal content anymore. pk3 is a proprietary fromat -part of a game’s internals u r not even supposed to know about its existence- hiding everything inside which is unaccessable and undisplayable and unrecognisable for everyone except who own the knowledge and the texhnical means of opening them, ie the everyday user is out. it is not a swastika/sig runes/anythnig anymore, just some compressed mess about which u cant know what it is. u dont even know it can be opened and it conteains files in them. its legal. it is just a pure coincidence that a pk3 happens to be the same as the zip… XD. however at the point when the game opens it, reads it, renders it, it destroys its hiddenness and it becomes a swastika, and to show it on your monitor etc is illegal -> i think one is encouraged to make such censor overrride pk3s, this should be even done without any consulting to the map maker. with such an override pak the 2 paks together becoming legal in my twisted reading, as with those 2 u will never ever see anything illegal on the players monitor, it is totally impossible. technically. (u download BOTH, then game renders the nonoffensive with 100% certainity, or u dont, but thn u cant play on that server, same.)

i think if u take the min kampf and encode and/or encypher it and put it to an unsuspecting user’s pc who cant open it its not the mein kampf anymore, its just a quasi-random mess of bits, bytes, illegible, unusable for anythnig at all.

+freenet… distributed content yet u r not responsible for having it on ur pc even if its some terrorist manuals etc.

the carentan port that i’m working on will have nazi symbols, but official pk3 will have them replaced (like swastikas with crosses etc). it’s better to release separate pk3 with nazi stuff.

yeah right a few mins ago i have thought about this sep. pak for those too… liked it for 1st but only problem i wonder then how many admins will put it on their servers… i fear not much.

btw my approach was for it that my onw will not technically contain any of these, but somw specifically edited one which are very much resembling. instead of replacing it with a wolf symbol, or having it blank white, both of which i really dont like. i think this will outrage a lots of persons but i especially experimented for this which parts to remove to make it the least visible its not it. (of the swastika; with the ss symbol one dont have too much choice, personally i edited it to become 2 slanted paralelograms…)
