The trade in part is bullshit, since it’s not possible to trade in cards of the same merc.
If the trade up part os true then yes, it seems odd.

Edit: I learnt this the hard way.
I traded in my gold K92, and 2 other extra golds i had.
I ended up with a B93.
I feel like crying now. Not even joking
