Same, hope for no lunge at all, simply because that would doom you if you miss the first hit, because of not being able to navigate into another direction (and already during the stab/slash/whatnot itself, reducing the chance to hit aswell)
and yea, hitting in a 90° angle is pretty much bull* aswell at least if the damageoutput of melee attacks are anywhere near reasonable (which we all counting on, no?) because you would just have to spin around in close combat and slash/kick/stab/etc. around and not really need any skill for that - except some movement and timing maybe:P
but what I’d fancy to see is if two targets are standing close to each other and you are actually able to slash with a knife(light’s get those, right?) that you’d be able to hit both targets, maybe it’d have to be balanced in the way of reducing the damage per person, but that the overall damage still is increased by attacking both of them 
(light weights are easier targets anyway, so why not grant them this bonus if they’re meant to be better melee’s than the others anyway?:D)
