making Brink better: ideas to add or ideas for a Brink 2
I think Brink should have followed it’s original story a little better, not saving or escaping the ark, but poor v.s. rich.

I think the question of if there was an outside world added appeal to the game…
Perhaps. But I fear that with a “poor vs rich” story, the poor will be much easier to be interpreted as terrorists than freedom fighters.

lol…that’s one way to say it…at least there will be a singleplayer then

Great read. And I agree.

Critique of Brink’s storytelling: The cutscenes were some what disappointing. They are average (by very, very low standards) at best. I would have expected a rich narrative on personal motives and not a rundown of objectives. There are too many character models/mocap actors on stage that contributes with nothing. Have more vocal dramatization and character interaction. For the short duration characters actually speak, I want to feel that I am looking at a great european Auteur, not a holywood action movie. Which I by the way don’t. I feel like I am playing a game (because all of the (often) excess and inconsistent chars on-screen.) And it’s a sin to not have the main protagonist (you) utilized as a vocal asset in the cutscenes. He is just there. Anyone ever really found Gordon Freeman to be that interresting? Especially since he (the main protagonist) is already voiced (so he’s not silent, just in the cutscenes): “What were you thinking?” You missed a opportunity for greater involvement. The way it panned out the story is just secondary nature (and might I add completely irrelevant for the player and thus utterly boring.) More character dialog and more feelings, less display of technological prowess, please  (or if you do, do it in a way so that it enchances the storytelling, instead of diminishing it.)

I play against bots (hard) + just enjoy it like that. I will give MP a shot at some point, but I’m enjoying Freeplay/Solo right now.

Better bot AI + reaction times (at hight difficulties) is what I’d like to see.

SP - I like it how it is, I played a lot of Q3A SP at nightmare difficulty (played a lot on LAN too + Quake Live, so I do know how MP is). I actually like some SP games like this, if the difficulty is right it can be a real challenge. The bots were pretty hard on Q3A at nightmare and it plays out like a sport FPS.

I like the story stuff in Brink + the stat tracking keeps me playing to see how I’m improving (mainly interested in weapon accuracy, wish you could see a K/D ratio also). I think the game’s a lot of fun to play, be that against bots or full MP.

Also removing bots entirely means you then have to rely on other people. Bots mean I can play full games when ever I like and I know the type of experience I’m going to get.

I can play these levels again and again, if Brink SP was a scripted affair I’d have played through it once and then likely never come back.

I know I’m the odd one out here, just saying ;).

(to be clear I don’t think that bots can replace humans of course, but there’s definitely a place for them).
