Lets talk Boss battles

I really like that, that’s actually a very legit way to tie in a ‘boss’ as an objective. In ETQW I imagined a boss that needed to be brought down by weapon’s fire and healed up by technicians, but with a chopper it can be the engineers that need to repair the damage done.

It’s a dynamic, gradual objective instead of the ‘absolute’ ones we’re used to from ET.

I seem to remember the story mentioned a lack of communications with the rest of the world. There’s no place aircraft can come from other than from the ark itself.

I’ve created a monster lol But yeah thats what I was thinking as well not sure if they’ll actually add it, but it does sound fun.Don’t most good single player experiences have Boss battles? Lets blur the lines a little more SD :wink:

not a monster, but for sure a spark. It’s a good starting idea for the mappers and modders that exist on these forums, and there are plenty of them

Rahdo is responsible for the worst boss in singleplayer history, let him stick to inventing cool shooter mechanics instead.

The tank and MCP aren’t really autonomous units in the same way a boss can be.

The bot is neither a tank nor a mech in the way the guy I’m responding to meant it.

In regards to the helicopter idea can anyone at SD comment on whether such a thing would be possible in a custom map?

I know stationary objectives like this are possible in ET:QW but I guess moving ones would be a problem. Also having a turret like weapon attached which would shoot at it’s nearest target as it moves along would present some difficulties I’d imagine.

The idea sounds similar to the gunships in Half Life 2 you had fight at random, especially the larger one on the water jet section.

Yeah hence an AI controlled boss. A third party. Having a player as an objective is very nice in VIP kind of missions, but this is only fun if the player himself is the weakest of all, like not having any perks and only a handgun to defend himself.

I was thinking the Heli could be a time scripted event and resistance had to build counter measures, the Heli landing or not would be final objective. It wouldn’t have to fire or carry actual players, just land for security to win match.
