The whole knife was perfect in W:ET: Fast jabbing animation, but low damage from the front, instant kill from the back. Some of my best moments in W:ET were strafing around a player and then swapping to knife and stabbing them in the back.

Reduce frontal damage to 3 hits and reduce the alt knife dps.

Combat in general is poorly balanced, with guns taking ridiculous amounts of rounds to inflict damage, player speed being sluggish, no material penetration and grenades that are all but worthless. But the knife, the knife is salt in the wound. This is supposed to be a shooter, not a stabber. WTF happened to bringing back what was great about ET?!

I don’t understand your point here. In an close-quarters game, you typically wouldn’t want melee to be very strong.

cowl416, you ever listen to music for the first time and thought it sucked? but then listen to it again and it grows on you? well yeah same thing here, I wouldnt pre judge the game off of 10 mins of game time. Also your competition may have been a little better than you are giving them credit for. Regardless welcome aboard and I hope you give the game a fair chance.

Actually those first impressions are very important. SD can’t rely on their customer base giving the game a fair chance if they don’t like it the first minutes they play it.

W:ET and ETQW had me hooked from the first shot I fired. In fact, every game I played and got invested in always had been love at first sight.

Dont bring a knife to a gunfight. unless its DB then yes, bring it.
its simply overpowered atm. at least the distance to hit has been reduced, much better.
but it should be your last weapon when you’ve run out of ammo.
problem i have at the moment is when i get someone close who is attacking with a knife they are just too close and move around too fast to hit with a gun.
take into consideration im rubbish and still a little rusty. seems bighogins is our resident blade tester atm he helped defend the barrier for a decent amount a time with the help of some snipers and his trusty knife. going to do some knife only testing myself. to be honest i havent really done yet. :rolleyes:

at this point i feel a 20% damage with slash and 20% for alt. is where it should be.
with only a small central back area giving insto kill. with a little knife icon as ET.

in the unlikely event that i kill a lot with the knife, i apologies in advance.
as i know theres nothing more annoying.

Agree, this is why I like to take a break between patches, play lots when an update lands, then peter out until the next one hits.

This way it feels fresher and feedback is more instinctive rather than over analysed.

Also I do have other things to do in life… j/k… or am I? :smiley:

This is also a good argument not to open the flood gates to everyone at once, let in a few extra people with each patch, not all at once.

I have to echo the other comments here, reducing the range was good but the high damage and inability to dodge unless you can get your own knife out in time before you die is the real problem IMHO.

Initial impressions are that the range is still too high, warrants more testing though.

having more of a play with it today, it feels ok and not too overpowered.
the knife to gun fights lasted a decent amount of time. seemed around 50/50 kill to deaths.
still tweaking my mouse settings so i expect it to get a little higher with practice.
so maybe a tad too high still.
in ET and ETQW i would expect to kill only from sneaking behind and back stab. or from slashing an injured player who was fighting back.
in DB you feel like you have a chance just by charging and slashing a full health guy.

i still feel it should be a backup weapon and not a main one.

has anyone got the damage numbers for knife.

The biggest gripe I have with the knife is that it just doesn’t seem very dangerous in the sense that it’s almost like an instant kill. So aside from the inherent danger of “this guy is way too close to me”, I don’t feel like there’s any sort of indication that I’m suddenly in mortal peril despite my full health. A half second later, and I’m dead.

Obviously I don’t want some huge flashing radar going off if someone breaks my ‘personal space bubble’ but I haven’t even really noticed a damage indicator on the supposed first slash.

I’m definitely all in favor of backstabs being insta-kills… but full on frontal assaults, smg’s should win that battle.

Knife is definitely strong. A few things need to happen to resolve.

The damage needs to be reduced - 1 back, 3 front (right click)
The attack animation/time needs to increase between strikes (increase TTK) - I would prefer this to not change
Movement speed on back pedal needs to increase so people can players can run backwards and pop the melon without getting wrecked by a fast double shank

Range I don’t think is too much of an issue atm. If you make it too close it becomes worthless.

Would be nice to have the knife to kill people form the back instantly and take 4/5 shots from the front. Way too many people are running into people with a knife because it only takes 2 hits or so.

Simple suggestions: Slow rate of stabbing, add a success penalty animation for a stab that lands. You should be more inclined to switch to a gun if the stab doesn’t kill.

2 different animation is a nice idea, but the cut is really to powerfull

Just had some guy who was running with a knife only and was killing most of our team. Very, VERY boring to play against and I think if they are knifing from teh front the damage given should be no more than 10hp per hit.
