um, nothing. just making carentan forced me to use some new techinques that weren’t known in et world before i think… and these will become public after your release. 
techniques? as in brushwork? or are you talking about the alpha blending u showed before?

Alrighty, it has been quite some time and for a few days now, the Veteran Soldiers server has been running the first version of the map.
With that, we’d like to invite you to take a peek inside and check out the map with its awesome mod.

I. A brief history
------------------------------
This Kha Ran Than map was originally conceived as a complete and perfect reconstruction of Carentan, in order to pay tribute to this celebrated Call of Duty multiplayer map. In the mapping process, and with the consent of VS, the idea got adapted in honor of the alliance between SLUT and VS.
The map was to undergo a complete transformation, ultimately attempting to give the map a Vietnamese war atmosphere. Hence, the current map's name is a mere "vietnamization" of Carentan: "Kha Ran Than". Evidently, the map features the VS Vietnam mod textures and sounds. Also, beside the original Carentan setting, the map was enlarged with a beach landing and a town plaza to better suit the 40 slot VS server.
In an initial phase, Kha Ran Than will be provided exclusively to the VS clan to use on their VETERAN SOLDIERS-VIETNAM server. Later on, it could be made public for others when adapted to the original CoD Carentan setting.

Kha Ran Than was created by [SLUT]manwhore and [SLUT]Shagileo.

Later on, the map was send to Sage from S&M Mapping. He did the fps improvement (-vis).
The entire concept took about a half year of weekend work to become reality, from somewhere in September 2008 to June 2009. It must be emphasized the final result was achieved without ever decompiling anything from the original CoD map or any other map from any other game.

1. Setting:

US army forces infiltrate the capitalÕs fallen suburbs of Kha Ran Than in an attempt to retrieve vital information in order to safeguard the planned evacuation operation Frequent Wind.>>
Everything about this story is historically truthful, except for any supposed infiltration of US Navy Seals in a town called Kha Ran than - unless it did happen secretly...
The map features the original CoD town of Carentan, together with a small beach and a town plaza.

VIII. Extra and known issues

Beta 2 release notes:
======================
- We had to cut some MB's and therefor there is no secret room included in this version. If the FTP host allows higher MB, we will in a later version
- We fixed the spectator visibility. We added an extra 'roof' clip, so less caulkwork can be seen
- Small fixes to save MB's
- Only a -light Faster compile has been done
- ...

Beta 1 release notes:
======================
- This map has been fully re - textured for the Vietnam mod 0.0.1. Hence the long delay of the (first) release
- This map can be modified later on due to clipping issues. Spectators can see too much caulkwork when scouting the map. Other issues need to be spotted later on.
- There are several funny features in this map, such as a secret place featuring some real slut members (modified with their permission) and a picture of the mappers with Ho Chi Minh having a great time. Have fun searching :)
- a Huey helicopter model was created by Pegazus. Due to a bug, we unfortunately could not implement it in our first version.
- Terrain blending still needs to be done
- The tank movement is sometimes rather shaky. This could be fixed in a next release

It’s not my mod, so I’m not the one i charge 
It’s just, if we wanted to announce our map, we inevitably had to tell what the mod was all about.
However, there’s a new thread announcement in the making and then I’ll edit my post
Sorry, my mistake. As a newbie on this forum I didnt want to write my first “serious” topic as a promotion. And due to KRT map and Vietnam mod go hand by hand, I agree with SLUTs to include our mod inside their Kha Ran Than map topic.
It seems it is not the correct way to act, so I will build my own topic.
My apologies.
I must emphasize once again, we strongly advise downloading the map directly from the server, so you can play the map in the Vietnam mod, as it is meant to be played.
Also, as a reminder, this map is not (yet) for other mods.
So it’s not advised (or allowed for the moment) to host it on your server, because it will only give you errors… and mad server visitors

With so many new big maps released in the past few days “Capuzzo Airport, Praetoria-Mission Two: Hell on Wheels” a new one named Kha Ran Than showed up in the released section.
After successfully getting into the Vietnam mod server i got a change to play around in it.
Starting out the first thing i noticed was the Huey helicopter (sadly not what i was hoping for but i know what happened to the model). The helicopter looks nice for brush made, i liked the helicopter propellers.
But on with the map. As most of us know it’s a remake of COD 1 map Carentan (correct me if i am wrong) but that’s about just it where the similarities end. The textures are all new which fit in nicely with the vietnam theme.
Though the objective is simple and solid, repair the tank and escort it to the house which the doors are blown away by the tank. Then steal the documents and take them to the helicopter. It’s a mixture that has worked for years and why change it? The route is small to the objective but it’s a route that is action packed. Plenty of alternative routes and places to hide.
This map seems to suit perfectly with the new Vietnam themed mod, though i am not sure how all the houses looked like in Vietnam. If to ignore that simple thing it seems to be a perfect small, action packed map with a suitable mod and new textures.
One thing to note
The tank did not move smoothly at the start where it was repaired, at those “potholes”.
In total, great work from you guys. Shagileo and Manwhore you came over the awful challanges that during the map making came including the Vis problems.
(don’t take this rating seriously it’s just my opinion rating)

i first thought that this would be asphalt, but as you see i can plant a mine there. is this supposed to be so ?

doesnt look good. you really need to fix this.

there is no pic 3 ^^ but you have to make the ground on first tankbarrier minable in my opinion.
also thighten the flag_only_multiple for the documents in the helicopter. i really shot the one who was climbing up there. and he had the docs carrying. i fraged him before he was fully in that helicopter. but the game ended. was dissapointing. i shot him down but it was a success for the “allies”. you really must tighten this trigger.
all in all well done. the insides of the buildings and the textures were nice. also the sizes are apropriate. i know you didnt decompile so that takes some skill to make the shapes perfect in size and stuff.

pic1: you’re right, but we thought it would be more strategic and better for defense for Vietcong (axis) if they can plant landmines, since marines can enter the area in 2 (or more if covops) ways. We’ll see what further testing brings. If it’s too hard for marines, we’ll need to change it probably
But the ‘asphalt’ texture is suppose to be, yes
(it’s actually more like some kind of gravel)
pic2: correct, we would’ve done a better light compile, but we wanted to see the gameplay. In a next update, a better light compile will be done . For now, we’re pretty satisfied how things look (about lighting) , but the devil is in the details and also the finishing touch. It’s a must do in our list!
“pic3”: good idea
@ tighten the trigger: we’ll take a notice of that. If I see it’s too much of a problem, I’ll certainly change it.
