Honestly, you wouldn’t be complaining if that level 98 was on your team.

It doesn’t even look unbalanced if you removed that high level guy who probably plays everyday.
Plus, just take a look at that screenshot. Everyone died and I can’t even see anyone using a medic. Having just one sparks at chapel will turn things around.

I do feel that levels should be removed and just showcase the person’s KDR which will prevent others from complaining from the start that they have low levels or that the opponents have high levels in their team.

Balance can be achieved by shuffling players around to maintain an average KDR ratio at the beginning of the game.
As I said, I’m not posting this to complain. There is enough people complaining about shitty balance already. I know the devs are doing the best they can to improve this game, and they get enough shit already. We had medics most of the time, but people went engineer instead in hope of getting the ev repaired. Also we shuffled several times, but people were too busy winning that they didn’t care about it. I just thought this was a good example that people just dont give a fuck about a good game, but rather about winning. I agree on the KDR-part, sounds like a good idea to me. But I think not showing the levels is taking it too far, cause there is no doubt a level 98 player will be better than a level 5. So for now, balancing the teams after level is good enough (mostly).

Nobody, at least nobody rational, ever argued that a level 98 won’t be better than a level 5 who is still within their first hour or two of gameplay. It’s the scaling that doesn’t work on showing levels. At some point, pretty early, you stop learning at an accelerated rate and suddenly time played does not gain you more or as much skill overall. By the time you hit level 8-10 you’re already getting close to as competent as you’ll ever be. That’s why I’m 100% for having servers that have new players play each other but then keep everything the same after it. But why show levels in the first place if they are only valuable for an early period of time and then suddenly lose their value and even cause issues with perception of balance (and using it as a scapegoat most of the time)?

That has always been the argument. At least in regards to anything I’ve talked about.

(ostmustis) #23

their team composition is way better, if you wanted to win you should have played medic.

I"m the exception to the rule then…I was totally shit at the game for the first 150 hours or so and began to improve heavily after that, especially in the map flow / aiming department.

poiuasd is clearly too strong for this game, 50+ servers when?

I’ve actually talked about this a bit too. A lot of people just play to play as opposed to play to improve. To have something to do and they play the game as a fun time killer and don’t care too much. But sometimes people eventually decide that they want to do good and they start paying attention to ways to make themselves better (usually when people get interested in playing for a team). And some of those people can actually get better or do figure out a way to get better. And if you’re dedicated to that and play to improve as opposed to play to pass time then you can see an increase in results and skill. But the rate at which you learn/improve will still be slower than those first 10-15 hours.

It’s kind of a fun psychological topic and it’s different for everyone. After my first year of Q3 I decided I wanted to get serious about getting good and playing for good teams. So I changed up everything I could possibly change to make me better, studied better players, watched a crap ton of demos (no Youtube back then) and mostly used my time playing to learn as opposed to just passing time. I’ve had success pretty quickly in other FPS games due to me transferring that mentality in how I spend my time with them even if I am not serious about playing competition in that game.

meh, seen way more unbalanced games; once i was playing 2v7 for 4 min, nobody switched; me and my teammate had 2sec spawn with 6-7 enemies camping all around

What does this post really contribute? The same as this one, nothing.

I don’t recommend they remove the level, and show the KD since people might just kick low KD players at,the beginning of the game. Also it might be the reason of mentall abuse. However balance seems to be a problem. MY opinion is that maybe SD should make different channels, for example, 1-10 level channel, 11-20 channel, and a channel that is for all level players. I believe this should help the balance problem and players won’t complain about level probelm anymore.

Might be there are some issues that make SD does not want to do this way since I’ve seen a lot of FPS do the same thing?

Stuff like this bugs me, because it’s almost as if people think that just because you’re a high level, you’re not allowed to play pub? You’re not welcome there.

A lot of times people will just look at a level and say “welp we lost”. Or, God-forbid, the high level player is good. Then it’s just worse. Veterans of this game are treated like ass in pub; told to fuck off to comp or to get a life or wahhhh butthurt gamer tears. It doesn’t bother me personally, although I do get a bit tired of people voting to kick someone just because they’re a high level and know how to play the fuckin’ game.

And for fucks sake, if you’re a high level and do BAD or MEDIOCRE? OH! Prepare to get roasted.

Would hide my level in a heartbeat if I could.

Wouldn’t mind it if levels would be removed/hidden.

Yeah, that sucks. But personally it doesn’t bother me too much. However, I know it bothers others on the server. Even ones who don’t say anything and instead just get mad and quit because they think level = power like this is a freaking MMO or Destiny or now The Division.
