It amazes me how spoiled so many Sparks mains are.

There’s no point balancing a game for public when the skill difference is so large. The biggest factor in pubs is skill, not balance. Competitive is where mercs are pushed to their maximum and the skill difference is a lot closer. As a result imbalances have a far greater impact on the game and are far more obvious. That’s why you should always balance towards comp.
All you have to do is look at some of the latest balance changes (which were made off statistics gathered in pubs) to realise how much of a bad idea it is to balance of pubs
The latest statistic they got are from min ten and Ranked match only. Get your stuff right.
Min lvl 10 is still low level pubs and most people in MM play like it’s pubs. If you want to balance, you need to balance off actual comp.
Well if your not speaking of MM Ranked i dunno what you mean by “comp”, and if you mean those tournament and pugs played by barely a hundred people that would just be stupid to balance a game just for those; like it or not they just cant balance the game around a bunch of players, you seem to be thinking those people are somehow superior to the rest. They are not they are just players like everyone. I know DB aims to be some sort of competitive Esporty game but you just cant push that to happen it happens by himself if its worth it. The game isnt even released they cant just start balancing the game around their ridiculously low “competitive” (whatever you mean by that) playerbase. Because what maybe right for comp, isnt fun for all the others , and at a beta state, the game wont survive without all those others. Like it or not. They can’t do that. Not now.
I’ve already said why.
@Jesus the only reason i put past tense is cause i didnt hear opinions regarding sparks post nerf from the comp scene. id imagine she is just as viable, but i do not know.
regarding balancing for comp: comp players are the most dense environment of high skill players. i do not mean it as a brag or a boast, i dont do comp myself, just a fact to keep in mind.
high skill is what drives future meta. pubs in a year will follow the footsteps of the current comp, since comp players pick what is most viable/effective, and these insights are then seeping in into pubs - pub players will follow what is most effective.
sure people play for fun and with the crap mercs too, but once someone sees a nader using some comp level prefire nades they are likely to replicate that idea, and so the most effective tactics evolve, while crappy strats die out.
comp scene is also not something that happens on its own - not unless you have modding freedome likenwith W:ET. should SD give up on balancing for high skill, comp will die before it began, and with it most of the game’s longevity which is a lot more important for an F2P title, than for shit game like SW battlefront or sth : P
so far SD has demonstrated their willingness tonbalance for comp (e.g. consecutive fragger nerfs, even though he was hardly as annoying on pubs, without a medic), while trying to remove features that might annoy pubbers (jump sniping vassili).
anyways, while balance is the hottest topic, its also the least relevant for a developing game - barring some huge imbalances, mercs can be enjoyed on pubs even if some are objectively worse than others
Sparks is still a decent combat medic. If you get mid range, its still a 1 shot kill
its f2p so it sure will. in some way game has been out for 2years+ im at 1.5 and i dont have any sense of boredom yet; people can get insanely good and keep t challenging
@Szakalot
well its only you, I play since september i now have all the merc with rather good card on all of them and nice rarities. And with all those updates thats keeps on punishing a certain type of gameplay, I now cant play more than 5 minute without being bored to death.
I have litterally nothing to do anymore in this game apart from farming cobalts which stops being funny.
@Redbeard your useless comment too are continuing, your life must be so good that you have time to go on forum just to say things like that and not actually say anything worthy of being read. I kinda feel pity for you.

thats your problem right there. If you play for skins and achievements you will get bored.
If you play to get better and challenge yourself with amazingly skilled enemies you will keep rediscovering DB as a fun game.
So too bad, was nice to have you around; and thanks for all the fish. byebye
Imo a medic shouldn’t also be a sniper, or able to oneshot you.
Do damage, sure, perhaps, but just plain oneshot you? Where’s the downside to playing Sparks with that kinda power?

Oneshotting fragger like merc? okay no to that. Oneshotting squishies? Hell yeah
the downside ? Dying in two rounds.

thats kind of a bullshit reason. Its like play to be the best and nothing else there is nothing more toxic than that. And its certainly not adding fun to the game.
There is a point where you are just good at something in the beginning or not and then you get better, thinking everyone is equal to everything is just silly. And when i watch some tournament and see how certain players are playing I just know ill absolutely NEVER be that good, nor even close to beat them or get a draw so in the end this motivation isnt motivating to play at all. I maybe lvl 30ish by I didnt progressed since lvl 15-20 id even say i became less good at the game and i sometimes just get destroyed by lower levels. So i guess i touched my skillcap. And now I have nothing to do. How is it instructive or fun to try and try again and always get rekt to the ground ? Hint: Its not.
I am not of bad faith I tried the new ranked. I got discouraged when i got placed in middle silver rank while i won 8 of my placement match when i was in the last gold rank in pre season, at first i was like yeah ill climb it back two matches later i was losing a rank because leavers and afkers, so thanks but no.
whats toxic about wanting to play better???
not sure what you are talking about tbh.
im not telling you how to play, but if you play for achievements - no wonder you get bored. i gave you my advice on how to enjoy a game beyond the ‘badge hunting’ personally the nr1 enjoyment i get from games is a challenge.
easy=boring for me.
thata not the same as being obsessed with winning, or tryharding comp, or whatever

Its toxic because in the end after failing repeatedly again and again it just stops being fun and the game is no more about fun.
I know ill never beat certain people when i see how precise their aim is and how well executed their movement are cause i just dont have this aim and my movement are really clumsier than that, and there is nothing i can do about it.
Playing for something you know you wont get isnt funny, and its toxic because at some point failing will just start pissing you off.
Im not telling playing for achievement isnt boring, it is once you are done. Im the living proof of it.
But i still think playing to beats higher player is a toxic motivation
you misunderstood me.
playing THE BEST =/ playing at YOUR best.
dont worry about being the best player. just focus on improving/playing as best as you can. Thats where the infinite amount of fun is, in all parts of life : )

Well i stopped improving myself a while ago so i cant say share the same feeling as your infinite amount of fun

there is a lot of the game that you can improve in that goes beyond pure aim/reflexes. I dont have so much time lately to show you, but pm me steamid and maybe we can figure sth out in the future : )
Generally speaking, its good to take a step back from learned gameplay habits and try to rethink everything from scratch. Good questions&things to ask yourself when you play:
- why did i win that firefight?
- why did i lose that firefight?
- if the enemy is really hard to hit from where im standing, its probably really good to stand there myself ; when tables are turned
- why did i get hit by that ability (airstrike, arty, explosive spam) - i didnt see it coming, COULD I see it coming?
list can continue but gotta go sorry ; )
Sparks is a real pain to balance because friendly fire in competitive makes her incredibly viable whereas the lack thereof in matchmaking basically axes a lot of her capability. The only way you can balance her healing power across competitive and matchmaking is make the REVIVR heal instead of team killing/doing nothing.
Perhaps it is not a wise idea to have a merc that depending on the type of game has abilities that change…
