Wow.

In addition to creating elitist ***bags, promod also creates the competitive scene. Yknow, the one that is the only reason CoD4 is still so alive. If you want to have your pub fun with last stand and other silly thingamabobs, that’s all fine and dandy, but if you want to reinstall after a year or two and see more than a handful of active servers… Yeah.

I was talking about promod from my experiences, not ET. im not denying its a great competition mod and has kept CoD alive. it’s just a horrid public mod that labotomises a perfectly good game, you say it gets rid of kids in last stand or using martydom, well deal with the it, i learned to have fun with last stand, just throw a stun at the guys head or knife him, makes him feel stupid, or you could just join any server from day one, last stand and marty were banned as soon as ppl saw them, same with the nade launcher.

The mod itself is ok in CoD4, it’s the ppl it’s created in the sequals of CoD 4 that it negatively influenced. creating the quick scope hordes.

I’m all for an SDK in this game, infact i really want it as the maps are allready getting boring with ppl becoming predictable at choke points etc.

I don’t think Brink needs a pro-mod like ET did, the game is pretty stable and balanced as is.
Some pro-mod supporters will say that buffing doesn’t belong in a competitive game but I disagree as it adds a tactical element to the spending of resources.

Like in CS getting Kevlar is a tactical choice, it costs resources and gives a benefit as a result. Kevlar and Health Boosts in Brink costs resources(supply) which is limited so it is a choice of how you want to spend that supply.
Use lots of Mines and Grenades or buff everyone with Kevlar?
Spend supply on metaboost? Sprint? Or just Heal and Res more people?

The decision making adds a layer of skill beyond the basic goal of kill dudes and complete the objective.
Of course I don’t begrudge people wanting to a play a more simplified version either, but I hope that doesn’t become the competitive staple.

I want an SDK for maps mostly, when I see the SMART system and the objective system i’m just drooling at the possibilities these create for maps.
I’ve got so many ideas and plans for awesome maps and gametypes, it gives me chills thinking about it.

I’ll probably take flak for this post, but I’d probably do a quick gungame gamemode :slight_smile:

If you hate gungame, that’s cool, but I think it’s pretty fun to play once in a while and it pretty much fits in every game… hell I did a gungame mode for ArmA 2 and it’s pretty damn fun :slight_smile:

That’s the beauty of it, though. As a developer, you can never satisfy everyone. But you can give them the tools to satisfy themselves. Community-made content is never forced on anyone.

Ummm with SDK how about Full Conversion W:ET mod for Brink? All of our favourite stuff back on a new engine :slight_smile:
