I am worried for Brink.

What the hell are you talking about? How is it too late? Even if the marketing starts 10 days after release it’s not “Too late”… The game’s not going to go off like meat.

We are living in the generation of instant gratification. Some kid sees an ad for something that looks cool, and they go to the shop the next day and buy it. Why do you think credit cards are so popular? Why do you think the world credit debt is so freaking high? I know Australia has an average credit card debt of between $1-2k per person.

Everyone needs to relax. You check the forums every day. Ever heard that looking at the clock makes time slow down? Things are being done no differently to every other game release.

The OP didn’t make a single new point that hasn’t already come up in the other 3 “I’m worried” threads that have popped up over the last fortnight.

“Chilllllllllll Winston!”

aww, don’t discouraage them, I find it all quite humorous

it’s just funny that a few random people are “worried” that Bethesda (kinda known for intelligent marketing) doesn’t know how to market Brink

same sort of thing with the demands for new info and complaining that the last round of info after the “embargo lift” wasn’t enough, even though SD never promised anything new, the whole kerfuffle started over one e-zine reporters twitter twit/tweet mentioned a NDA was lifted on feb 28. Everyone expected a flood of new info and footage when none of that was ever mentioned as being available. The game doesn’t release for over 2 months and we already know more about the tech aspect than any other game, how many other forums have you seen that a dev will answer a question about deferred or forward rendering

plus, PAX East is next weekend and more stuff should be available then, expecting more from GDC was wishfull thinking
So you know that there are exclusive pre-order quests for L.A. Noire for each retailer, and that there has been no confirmation that these will later be made available somehow.

How did you see this information on L.A. Noire? Were you searching for it online, or was it a true ad while you were doing something unrelated?
Umm… Rockstar announced that all the pre-order deals will be DLC. And I just saw it from gaming sites. There have been a ton of videos for example on Gametrailers and news sites also talk about it.

And here’s the thing… L.A. Noire is a singleplayer game. Bink is a multiplayer game. There is a different between exclusive weapons for singleplayer and multiplayer.

And to everyone else. I am not talking about the ads on TV etc when it comes to marketing, ofcourse that might be a problem down the line, but we don’t know yet. I’m talking about the game being pretty much dead for 9 months.

Eh, guys try to google – most wanted games of 2011. And yea, I can’t be optimistic as Winnie-the-Pooh.

(Herandar) #25

Pfft. Amateurs.

And what makes you think that SD/Bethesda won’t just announce it later? Aren’t we just complaining about how they don’t reveal anything?

So you haven’t seen any marketing for these other games. You’ve seen content that you have searched for on specialist websites devoted to gaming. You went to these websites to seek out information.

Then you aren’t really talkig about marketing. Print ads, website banners, video clips (Choir of Guns anyone?) etc. The game has not been dead. It’s just that they are not showing off their game just yet. And maybe they don’t need to.

(.Chris.) #26

Most of the games featuring in them lists have a number at the end.

(Mustkunstn1k) #27

Herandar - Well… so far they haven’t announced anything about the pre-order bonuses being available later. So atm we can only assume that they don’t have any plans to change it. If they don’t make them available then that would be the biggest dick move ever… “If you want to get all the weapons in a multiplayer game you need to buy the game several times”.

And I don’t care if it’s called marketing or not, I made it quite clear what I meant. To me trailers are marketing. Yes, Choir of Guns. One short kill montage. Sure, for Brink fans like me, every new piece of information is awesome.

But think about the average gamer. Like I said, I have talked and seen people like that talking about Brink. Most remember seeing Brink from E3 but have basically forgot about it ever since that.

(Nail) #28

you realize the weapons are just cosmetic changes to the existing weapons, right ?

(engiebenjy) #29

I wouldnt worry too much about brink, the adverts will be there, and good reviews have a big impact I reckon.

Exactly what I was thinking
2011, the year of the sequel

(AnthonyDa) #32

Enemy territory 3 : Brink!

(Mustang) #33

Except that W:ET was never really mass market and ETQW was overlorded by Actifail
I wouldn’t consider it a franchise, which I hope Brink will be built into

Of course it’s not really a sequel, AnthonyDa was probably joking, maybe basing it on this quote.

But the relationship might be closer than you think. “I’ll be honest,” said Richard Ham, creative director at Splash Damage to Joystiq during a recent press event in Los Angeles. “Brink is Enemy Territory 3. Let’s not mince words here.”

TBH i dont really care if the COD fanboy buys it or not… wat is gonna make a game like this survive is its community… lets say it sells an average number of copies first week but than the community stays with it and they make great DLCs we buy them and keep buying new ones we can eventually make up for lost sales its not fair to us but if we love the game i am willing to do it
