get Brink mask and security gun!

Trixxy I’d like to be honest with you and tell you that you’d stand a better chance of getting valuable members at your site by actually contributing valuable posts on different sites instead of dangling trinkets in order to bribe people to get traffic.

You come off as someone who is just trying to take advantage of the brink community instead of someone who is trying to support the brink community.

Not true. He comes across as an untamed, enthusiastic, engergetic, maybe slightly misguided but with some guidenance… can become a true contributer and valuable member of the brink community. Lets reverse this devils advocate,… you guys are just trolling his positive qualities.

Good job Trixxy, you should team up with some people on your project and endevours, then I am sure you’ll succeed in your mission.

i agree with you. but you need to know me. Since ETQW old forums i started many “propaganda” threads with only one purpose. To have a fun. (for example seanza’s douchebag thread and many many many more). This is not about hunting people to site.

Just look around. This forum is full of hate and trolling. Nothing changed since old forums.

thank you. (tears in my eyes) ;p

My local palmetto bugs would crush your Brink brand plastic cockroaches.

Even the more common roaches would have no problem:

Right…

I’ve explained about 3 times now quite clearly why I think this giveaway is questionable yet only received childish remarks about dropping fecal matter and a general avoidance of the issues raised in return. I think Jess Alon’s assumptions are quite justifiable as are the replies of others in this thread.

Anyway just to reiterate, none of the prizes on offer are from Brink and as such shouldn’t be named in ways that suggest otherwise. Would it have been so hard to say, win Brink style masks and a gun replica?

Also the entry requirements for the competition require people to pimp someone’s site on someone else’s site, why not have something positive like design a character or write an article?

this fits in with “The day after” thread, incredible bad taste

That’s the point I was trying to make.

I would actually get excited if trixxy actually got ahold of some exclusive Brink merch like some brink shirts or the anger masks. Even another guy from a certain OTHER brink forum would have gotten me a little interested if he was auctioning off those brink character replicas for charity or something. But you grabbed some biker masks and a gun replica and said “Brink stuff” if you promote my site.

Which honestly comes off a little selfish.

its because i dont want to promote my site that way. with giveaways. with baby dolls. with brink style stuff. i dont care about this kids toys.

my plans or propaganda is different. you will see later. now i cannot reveal it.

my steps:
as 1st. i need to make people hate my site …
2nd step. . -> after 1st.

Just so it’s clear, the only stipulation for winning the most recent figure was to “like” the forum on Facebook. And, I made no mention of it here (until now, but the contest is over so it benefits the forum little). So I think that shows decent restraint on my part.

Google’s doing all the traffic generating I need now, so you can take joy in the absence of my promoting skills.

I understand the arguments that are being made here, and they are valid. But just as someone who has frequented several forums (most of which I am simply contributing to, and not “advertising” in), I can honestly say I’ve never been a member of a forum more hostile towards people offering them free stuff for doing almost nothing. Shoot, the Democrats here in the U.S. of A. win elections regularly for doing the same thing. Must be an internet exclusive phenomenon.

I have no problem with raffles, but when the basis for the prize is whoever advertises my forum the most, it comes across as really distasteful.

(Vaporman) #52

Well, online raffles are illegal in most states. So I would hope nobody thinks that is a wise choice for promoting anything. But if someone was only asking me to say, place their site in my sig somewhere else, I would have no problem doing that if it meant the chance at swag I was interested in.

You show a LOT more restraint. And we aren’t half as hostile as trixxy gets when someone questions him/her? I’m glad to hear your forum is doing well. Continue to support brink and contribute to the community and it will continue to do well.

(Shadowcat) #54

So handing out the prize randomly to one of the people who liked your forum on facebook isn’t a raffle?

(Vaporman) #55

raf·fle
1 /ˈræfəl/ Show Spelled [raf-uhl] Show IPA noun, verb, -fled, -fling.
–noun
1.
a form of lottery in which a number of persons buy one or more chances to win a prize.

Emphasis mine.

So to answer your question, no.

It would fall more in line with a giveaway, with elements of a contest also present.

give·a·way
/ˈgɪvəˌweɪ/ Show Spelled[giv-uh-wey] Show IPA
–noun
1.
an act or instance of giving something away.
2.
something that is given away, especially as a gift or premium

Well, i just meant randomly giving out prizes from the start, i apologize for the semantics lol

out of curiosity i looked it up, and the definition most commonly given by dictionaries of raffle is “a lottery in which the prizes are goods rather than money”

Lottery -

  1. A contest in which tokens are distributed or sold, the winning token or tokens being secretly predetermined or ultimately selected in a random drawing.

and from another dictionary
2. lottery - players buy (or are given) chances and prizes are distributed by casting lots

So i wasn’t as incorrect as you seem to be implying

(Jess Alon) #57

It’s funny to watch the logic raper get a taste of his own medicine sometimes. Good job vaporman.

(Vaporman) #58

Well, seriously though, it’s quite a different thing when you start asking for money to be a part of something like that. It’s a significant difference, especially since there are legal ramifications. I wouldn’t quite classify it as semantics.

(Shadowcat) #59

“Raffles for charity are legal as long as you follow the guidelines. Raffles for profit are illegal and considered gambling. Laws vary by state.”

So its most likely gambleing which is illegal, if no money changed hands, an internet raffle would be legal.

But honestly, this is just a pointless discussion of semantics.

My point was that when people are basically being bribed to advertise your site, and only the people at the top get the prizes, its starts to resemble a pyramid scheme. The forum owner has to spend very little to get lots of advertisement (in theory) while many of the members are only there for the bribes.

I wasn’t trying to make you out to be incorrect. I did want to make sure we were talking about the same type of thing (where no money is changing hands).
