I really like Shootmania, but only for the BattleWave and CTF mode.

I find that gamemodes are the main problems of shootmania. Too many gamemodes, but without one perfect gamemode and not enough players to make live each gamemode.

I prefer when an FPS has one or two well realised gamemode. Obj/stopwatch for ET, CTF for Tribes, obj for Dystopia, etc. This avoid the community to be divided, and the dev team work a lot on the balancing of the main mode.

I remember that BomBaKlaK was working on an Obj/stopwatch mode for Shootmania, I would have liked to see it !

For your suggestion, it seem more fun than the elite mode of Shootmania (too boring, I like shootmania but I dislike the elite mode), but the games will be too short no ?
In shootmania the defense team have the slow rockets weapons, which avoid fast killing. In DB, the gunfights are more fast.

Yep we made the battlepro mod with a mate of my clan, and try to make a territory mode based on 3 classes depend on the weapon choice, capture pole to the next one until you get the last one. with a progression accross the map, and an extended timer on each captured poles. Kind of siege mode, based on enemy territory with classes and respawn. But a lot of things were really weird to do with the Mania code … maybe they change and add what we need to finish it one day.

I also made around 50 maps on this games, some are still in use on the Frank Battle server and really apreciate by the players, but I quit due to the amount of players and the game going nowhere except Elite mod, and I dont like this mod. Maybe I will reinstal it to make a little battle sometimes :wink:

Indeed, TS (and UrT) was a lot of fun. I really enjoy CTF in just about any game - it’s too bad it isn’t widely popular in most of the games I have played.

I think PT’s idea would appeal to a lot of players and Splash Damage should consider it.

Speaking as someone that has come through the university system personally I wouldn’t bother. You seem to have a knack for it so if I were you the best thing to do would be to just go out and do. With the new UT on the horizon I would say now is a better time than ever to grab some text books games design and UDK and just make some yourself. Also much cheaper than a degree!

Back on topic, I loved Elite as a gametype. I think it is a truely underrated gametype. Would be interesting to see it given this Dirty Bomb treatment. I can picture it clearly on Waterloo where the forward spawn gets swapped for the objective. Tbh its hard to see any fault in the idea. Whether people would play it another matter.

Also very curious to see how artillery, air strikes and orbital lasers fit into this gametype? If the cooldowns continued into the next round and you switched the format to be 2 attempts before switching sides then I think that could be very interesting indeed.
