Game freezes during Intro video or first menus for single-core CPUs

(Nail) #21

minimum requirements state DUAL CORE, you have a single core, Portal only requires a single core, that’s why you can play it. If you can’t be bothered to read the requirements, you don’t deserve any real attention.

Portal 2 requires dual core, and i can still play it, where did you misread that in the requirements i posted?

Your missing the point entirely anyways, why would the game freeze after the intro on a selection screen with text because i dont have a better cpu? It shouldnt and i dont think minimum required specs are the issue.

Go be sassy somewhere else.

(ArcticFroggy) #23

Same problem here. And yes, I have a single-core processor too…
Aldaril and Hoodedsniper, I’m afraid your CPU doesn’t meet the minimum system requirements for the game: although they are around 2.6GHz they are both single core CPUs. There’s nothing we can do to fix this issue, I’m afraid.

If you want to play Brink, you’ll need to upgrade to meet the minimum system requirements.

The good news is that you both have the required Operating System, Graphics Card and Memory. However, depending on your motherboards you may have to upgrade those as well to support the CPUs required to play Brink. You’ll need to seek advice regarding an upgrade if you intend to pursue one.
Cant you give single core users a patch…? There are plenty of games that did… best example was Bioware giving a single core fix right away… besides lots of games run on single core even though they ask for a dual one… or at least a workaround… as you may have noticed there are still users here with single cores…

(Gabethelucky) #25

Yes i remember having the same problem with biowares dragon age 2 needing duo core and they made a patch to make it run on single core. Now i dont know if you guys can do this with BRINK.

(Hoodedsniper) #26

that would be amazing

The first processor listed in the minimum requirements for Portal 2 is a single core processor.

Its not really worth arguing about. If your PC doesnt meet the minimum requirements theres always going to be a chance that it wont work. Thats why they’re listed, so that when you purchase the game you can make an informed decision as to whether the game is going to work on your PC.

If you choose to ignore this and the game doesnt work you can’t really blame splashdamage or anyone else for pointing this out to you.

(loller) #28

Amazing, yes but unlikely to happen.

So what are they doing with all the money we spent on the game? They’re not being used on server resources… since we can’t play…

I have a decent gaming machine… dual core but 2 physical processors. No reason they can’t come up with a patch for this.

Important Information regarding this issue:
I was able to log in and play (haha 12fps) at work and did the character creation thing so I have a profile. When I log in from home now that I have a profile it bring up the character selection screen but the model will not appear. And then freeze of course. So it has to be something with model rendering.

I’d give my dxdiag but it’s just clutter at this point if the issue is the single core. Dual Opterons 2.0Ghz 9800Gt 4gb Ram

Please use the now worthless money I threw at you to develop a fix. What about the people with crazy single core gaming machines? It’s not right or fair to phase out single core in games yet.

Thank you

(Nail) #30

requirements state dual core 2.4 ghz processor as minimum, you FAIL that requirement

(deadguyperez) #31

And before you bash me on system requirements please note this:

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.4GHz or equivalent

I know people with dual core machines that run faster than that except they have 2 seperate processors. So the system requirements have been met, fix this…

Not to mention a 3.4 single core processor would blow this game out of the water too. Just make it work, eh? People still have those gaming machines from… 3 years ago? Wow… so old… but still. This should run fine.

(deadguyperez) #32

Flame on! Thread gets traffic either way… keep addin them replies

(BES) #33

The dual-core requirement seems to be bullcrap… the game isn’t multi-threaded …only ONE CORE of my AMD 1090T is in use when I play BRINK… I can show proof…

(deadguyperez) #34

That’s the spirit! This is bull**** isn’t it.

Developers please explain to us why this can’t be patched to a single core machine (Or dual single cores!)

I’m a tech I can understand… but not enough to know the problem.

Please help

Average game devs dont bother just as ppl dont bother playing average games. Simple as that. You might just give up and return the game. Splash damage cant be compared with other developers who actually care or bother…but then again they are not obliged to to those below minimum so yeah like I said return the game. Its average anyway. Not worth the trouble.

(deadguyperez) #36

The issue still remains that there -are- people who meet the minimum system requirements who have the same exact issue as me. Just because it’s a single core doesn’t mean that 2 of them slapped together isn’t comparable or equivalent or better.

The requirements simply name a brand of processor, not type. It doesn’t say you need processors with more than 1 logical core.

Get me? Just try and help from now on ok? Please?

Thanks

(Drok) #37

Truthfully, if they don’t fix this issue all it does is defer ppl from buying from this developer ever again. This tells you how ****ty of a developer Splash Damage is compared to others. I can guarantee that if this isn’t fixed I more than likely won’t buy another splash damage or Bethesda game.

Ya i read it wrong, and its not splash damages fault, its just theres plenty of times i never met minimum requirements for a game and could run them fine so it caught me and im sure others off guard.

I just hope they can make a patch for it.

(deadguyperez) #39

Thanks for the support! I hope so too. fingers crossed Seems like fun at work but unplayable at 10fps. My home machine I’m sure can do at least 30… if it could play… o.O

It really can’t be that hard… hire the devs from portal 2, that thing runs like a fxxxing TOP.

Thanks
