So now i wait till rhino is out of free rotation. Who is the “brain” who puts rhino/nader in free rotation? Maybe he/she should play now on pubs and enjoy his/her ****!
Free Rotation...
The way the last one was handled was garbage though, never gave players a chance to settle into anything…
Not only that but the time when you the event was as you started hemorrhaging players!
Nothing ever happens in a vacuum in a live game… which is also a reason why your assertion about what an all Mercs available period would do isn’t necessarily true either.
I’m not however, suggesting that the issues you’re pointing out are invalid. Perhaps there are other solutions that can simultaneously address other problems.

I understand that, however the way you worded the original response made out like “been there done that, you’re wrong.” and I just wanted to show to the other people reading this thread that things were not that simple.
I suppose a more polite way to put it would be, I don’t believe the timing of the last free weekend resulted in its impact being not only hard to gauge but kinda mute in general.
Based off the levels we run into in game, from what I see, there are still a lot of new people playing the game and a lot of people stopping playing the game. The positive is that lots of people still coming and giving it a try and increasing the retention rate at this moment in time would have the biggest impact on player numbers long term. Yet while we get lots and lots of new content for the long term players (which is great) it feels like we are not hitting them concerns for the people that install the game and quickly uninstall again. I love so much about this game and if I do, I think surely others will, it’s just Dirty Bomb is not putting its best foot forward to those players.
We got Execution mode INSTEAD of improvements.
We got Dome instead of refinement.
The new player experience needs to be improved…
Sure “we”, (the few hundred players on these forums) want more content, but we will likely still be here in 3-6 months if we have to wait…
The thousands of new people that installed the game in the last 24 hours… Won’t…
All the rest was fine but I have a problem with this part. If you’re purely playing a game to grind towards a goal then you’re playing for the wrong reason. Every single game that captivated my time was never for the end goal achieved via grind, it was for the fun and enjoyment of it. I’m not sure if people need to change their attitude towards the game or simply find something new, but personally I play for the enjoyment of the ‘now’ rather than the goal I can see in the distance.
Dont necessarily disagree with you, but considering how competitive the market is atm(especially in f2p titles) a game needs fun+reward to maintain players. If you can have fun+reward in one game and only fun in the other why would you play the latter? Which is quite black and white but its essentially what I read in spookifys comment. A game only being fun simply doesn’t cut it anymore in modern games, especially in the younger audiences where kids have the attention span of a goldfish.
Personally I really enjoy the game, but it’s the competitive feeling of reward(which for others is skins/trinkets/achievements etx)for me that is missing in DB. I can only enjoy so many hours of unchallenging pub(inb4 ego but its a simple truth that 90% of pubs dont give me the challenge I want in a game)until I get bored. And that, I think, is exactly why people are getting so frustrated with DB because we all really enjoy the fun of the game but it’s the feeling of being challenged that is missed. Be that unlocks/skins/trinkets/competitive play/etc, whichever one is looking for.
Just saying again that the problem as usual is quantity raping quality. 5 Naders poop on a game, 1 Nader alone doesn’t. Free rotation works in mobas because you never have more than 2 of the same character in a game(1 per team which in comp is even 1 of each per game).
Maybe combine free mercs with missions? Right now you can only get missions for mercs you own or that are on free rotate. What if you always get 2 missions based on gamemode and role, and 1 mission is a ‘free merc introduction mission’, which is different for each client. So I can have “Play 4 games as Nader” and I get access to Nader to test her out, but in the same mission rotation Pixel gets “play 4 games as Kira” and he receives her for free until he completes that mission. You could even do a 4th difficulty level so you can do the normal credit rewards for the first 3 and if you roll the 4th difficulty level and complete it you get a small discount to buy that merc(10% or smtn), would obviously be something that takes quite a while to complete. The only real downside is that ot reduces the playtime people can have per merc in the same period but it increases the variety of mercs they can try when they are new to the game.
If someone has all the mercs just give them the normal merc in squad missions. And if a new merc is released you give them the new merc mission but you make sure it doesnt give it to them again in say 3/4 days so they cant get that free introduction every mission rotation
Although many people have asked for this it is time to bring it up again, using a parallel to a recent triple AAA title:
Rainbow Six Siege limits your choice of operatives (“mercs”) within a team, it is time for DB to implement something similar.
Perhaps to 2 of the same merc per team.
The Merc selection “pipeline” would might have to change, choosing them after the teams have been made.
Or bringing back Squads (which was also a monetization opportunity [1st one free])
Everything in the game’s design so far has been in favour of other players on your team not ruining your experience in a public game; massive airstrike cooldowns rather than limited plane availability, friendly fire off rather than on, anyone can complete objectives, et al. So I can’t see this changing anytime soon, and to stick my stake in the ground, I wouldn’t want it to anyway.
There has been talk for a while (in streams and the like) of the possibility of a separate drafting style mode, personally if there were to be merc restrictions as such I think this would be a much better way to go about it.
I prefer something like a trial periode for mercs. You can play every Merc for one hour (use the same calculation which was used for the trinkets). After you played a total of 1 hour with the merc in your squad, you can buy and unlock him/her. If you dont buy him/her, the merc wont be selectable again until you buy him/her. So everyone can test the merc without the fear of wasting Credits/Cash.
