I wasn’t aware of those light problems, nor siliconslick’s listed problems. Ironically after releasing ruins23 my computer blew up… and I still haven’t had time to get it all up and running. As far as a ruins24… I don’t know if thats in the cards… what do you guys think? I haven’t even got to play ruins23 on a server since my computer blew, so I can’t really say.
BTW Neotic if you want me to do another pass for upping framerates then let me know 
I’d also consider you have a go at using some other lighting compile lines - the shadows are very pixelated (the top image in your first post is a good example).
Either some sort of sampling / filtering (although ask in the q3map2 forum about best compile lines, I know sod all about it) or change your q3map_sun line in the sky shader to q3map_sunext and look at the last couple of (new) variables to smooth it all out a bit.
leave it as is for a few months and see what comes up. I’ve only played it with very small teams and you never know what issues may be brought to your attention when you run into someone or a server where it has been in frequent rotation.
a non-gameplay suggestion I have is that many of the walls and floors have the same shading / lighting effect which makes some areas look a bit flat, especially around staircases. maybe maybe add a shadow on the floor or use a slightly different texture? perhaps gerbil might give you some pointers, have a good look around Helms deep to get some ideas.
oh and I still think the wave sound on the beach is a bit lound and harsh, the tranquility of the island calls for more of a gentle lapping than a full-on surf
