Actually, no. Dreds are, as I understand it, notoriously easy to deal with in a highly strenuous situation. But there is a typical, traditional way to control hair that was almost completely overlooked: braids. I mean, we have corn rows, I think (impressively comfortable hair style… had a girl once in my physics class that was super bored, so she braided my hair into corn rows during the lecture) but the vikings, for instance, kept their hair in just “regular” braids.
